I have just finished a 2.8 to TD42Ti conversion. Not quite on the road yet. Still have to make up some intercooler pipes. Instead of getting the fuel pump converted to mechanical advance I used the ECM from the 4.2 and changed the 2.8 Loome to suit. Prety easy job. I will do another thread on the conversion and go into more detail on this as I dont think many people go down the path of leaving the pump as it is and using the ECM.

My only concern at the moment is when I disconect any of the sensors on the engine the engine warning light does not come on. It comes on at initial key on and goes out when the engine starts. When I disconect any of the sensors the fault light does not come on. I would have thought it should. When I disconect the sensors the engine changes tone so the ECM is seeing them and they are working. When I disconect the Timing control sensor the engine starts knocking as it goes to full advance. When I disconect the needle lift sensor the engine changes tone. When I disconect the coolent temp sensor the electric fan at the front comes on, but the fault light will not. Maybe its not supposed to come on. Can any one let me know what theres does.

As far as i'm aware the light will only come on if you manually extract the codes. The light will come on if there is water in the fuel and something else but can't remember right now.

I was chasing an intermittant power loss problem a while back and I found that the engine warning light only came on when the timing control valve was unplugged. None of the other sensors triggered an engine warning light when disconnected. Cheers.

Thanks for the replies. I am not too concerned about it. Finally got it on the road last night and home. I think I might invest in an ECU Talk to keep an eye on everything. Its a different beast to drive than it was with the 2.8.

You gotta love the characteristics of the 4.2. I look forward to driving mine everyday. The best best thing I did was to get the 3" exhaust and a full tune done. The bloody thing pulls like a train. Cheers.

It is a pleasure to drive now. The only mods I have done is a 3" dump pipe and left the 2.5" exhaust on. The engine I put in is as stock as they come and only done around 70k. Will look at fitting a bigger intercooler before I do any power upgrades or pump adjustments. It is still running the 2.8 Intercooler. Also have D-Gas to fit back on. Want to get some fuel economy figures first. What revs is yours doing at 100km. Mine is at 2450 as it is still running the 4.6 diffs. It seems to be happy at around 2200.
