i've read that Mq's were made from 1980 till 1985 and mk's are made from 1985 till 1987 which i belivie to be true but...My patrol is a 1984 Mk! i know it's an mk because it has the mk grill and lights and no signs of them being swapped for the mq ones, and it has the h233b Lsd which not all mq's came with (i think) and the rear windscreen wiper (which doesnt work :rolleyes: haha) if anyone could give me any ideas as t why it is it would be appreciated...not that it really matters i just thought "thats weird...":D

Your the same as mine i think like most car companys its a cross ova form one model to the next.
mine was a P40 with all the extra goodys on it, i think its was a delux model and was made 10/1984.

The rear window wiper was only on deluxe versions
The MQ rad support has to be modded to accept the MK style headlights
Could be a varied change over period
My MK ute is 1984 ,SD33 n/a 5 speed
Id say it depends on options
A workshop manual here denotes MQ series 1980-1987 ???

yeah mines a 4 speed with powersteering if that makes a difference. but i think i could be a kind of "cross over" as dazza said.

When you go looking for parts, they're still MQ's or 160 series, at least in my limited experience anyway.

Ive done a bit of research into these cars and generally there are 4 main differences between the two models! They are:

1. 12volt ot of factory
2. Better and wider suspension (Front shackles on MK are wider)
3. Taco istead of clock/Nissan logo
4. Square healdlights and grill.

The differences between models parts otherwise is almost SFA! ;)

I believe it was oktober '83 when they changed to MK's. Mine is build november '83 and is a factory MK.

Tacho has nothing to do with MQ/MK, it was an option.

MK well is a made up name
It is NOT a reference code in every book/reference chart

SFA difference between the two ???,me thinks not
Theres quite a large , although minimal differnce between the two
Some parts straight swap,others need mods or worse DONT fit

Steering wheels are different, but interchangeable
Front stone trays are different,but interchangeable
Taillights,refer to neRoKs wiki
The indicator combo switchs are different ,and NOT interchangeable,different pin shapes
Grills are different ,and NOT as straight forward change over,with out mods of sorts
MQ 24v diesel,4 speed different tailshafts (due to box 100MM odd difference)
MK 12v diesel,5 speed different tailshafts (as above)
Thats straight of the top me head
Im sure theres a plenty more
When im bored again ill do a complete list up for ya neRoK for the wiki

that sounds good MQMAD. i hadnt heard the indicator combo switches are different, although ive never actually worked on a MK lol, all MQ for me. if you have the time and parts laying around, maybe take some side by side comparison shots.

In Europe diesels are always 24v.

Near 30 years later who knows why
Anything could have been swapped over or changed

Yeah, mine is a 84' 4 speed with powersteering, my mates is an 85' 5 speed without powersteering...go figure haha

My 84 MK ute,has SD33 n/a 5 spd no steer but air,tacho dash
