The Best Life You Could Have?

4993 Views 43 Replies 30 Participants Last post by  Zoltan
I think about this sometimes. Just what would it be like? How do you organise it?

As an example, my cousin, yep...he's even older than me. But, he cracked it. He's a writer, never done a proper job in his life. Married a woman 20 years younger, never had any kids (came from a big family and didn't feel the need to reproduce.)

Lives in Canada and has a Condo in Florida where he goes when it gets cold. Wife is one of those North American Dynamos...organises everything...he just lies on his spine and writes. Also travels the World as he pleases. A very comfortable life.

What do you reckon would suit you? For me, Lotto winner would do for openers.

I have had a great life, got a wonderful wife of 30 years, 2 really great kids, travelled the world several times over, have been very successful in the life I chose to make for myself and we have invested well to give us a nice retirement.

The only things I could wish for is to have back family and friends I have lost, fully recover my health to pre accident levels and see the end of the current crop of pollies running the country, the first two I can never have (c'est la vie), the other will come (just hope it’s not too late for the country when it does).

I am as happy as a grumpy old basterd could ever be.
I used to dream when I was a child of moderating an internet forum comprised mostly middle aged blokes looking to discuss their vehicle of choice however usually slipping into the general chat to discuss their lives and how they wish they were 21 again.
Never mind Yom, hang in there and you may get an invite to a jeep forum and achieve your childhood dream......
I would not change anything. I'm loving this life for good or bad to me its a bloody big circus. We are so lucky to be here given the odds so I'm not sitting back and wishing for this and that. I'm on a mission to have it and get it. Nothing is beyond reach and that’s a proven fact.

I'm very careful what I wish for as sometimes the man above makes it happen just to teach me a lesson.
mmmm,

Liking my life.

Would like to not have to pay for others' though.

I look forward to having a bathroom that doesn't have problems with damp in the hallway cupboard and kitchen goods that work!

See Mic at least Benno's train driving super rich future is attainable..... you ask the impossible.
The Dream: Have a huge plot of natural bushland on the coast of central to northern Qld wih a car collection that makes Jay Leno's look like a 5yr olds "hot wheels" box.

The Reality: I will remain happy if i can stay this side of the walls of a mental assylum or cancer ward. I will be happier still when i move towards my dream of having a job where i make a positive impact on the world around me (those of you who know me know what i'm talking about).

Oh and if the Mrs gave up the ciggies i'd probably so off my tit's on happiness that i wouldn't know what to do.

Maybe that's the simple dreamings of a simple bloke but i would seriously be happy with that.

mmm...nah..
Happiness is being content with where you are.
No - that's contentedness.

Happyness is finding 3 potato scallops in your takeaway when you only ordered 2.

Happyness is having more than you'd be content with.

I am content to live like i do, but I'd REALLY like to have my bathroom repaired (shower tray leaks i think) so that we can use our hallway cupboard; And a stove that works and an oven where the door doesn't fall off!

Happyness is temporary,
Contentedness can be constant.

You can be content when you are unhappy too.

Am i sounding a bit half empty? Nah, the glass is twice as big as is necessary.

x2. love my life. the good times and the bad. had a mate pass this morning who 12mths ago was fit as a fiddle with a good business, wife, young kids, moto's, everything looking good.
watched his muscles wither away but not his spirit over the last year.
RIP Glenn.

Enjoy how little or how much you have today guys. log off early and ring a mate, dad, son, daughter someone you think about but dont see or speak to as much as you would like. No amount of $$ can replace those times. will be reading my daughter an extra book tonight.

Not a downer to the thread as I have a huuuge list as well. sometimes reality gets in the way though.

Sh*t shane, sorry to hear mate. You speak very true words. condolences to you and cheers to Glenn.
Sorry to hear about your friend purplebus.

I have to agree with your statement as it is real easy to fall into the trap of discontment that comes with always chasing what you haven't got to the point of not realising where you are and what you have got in life and more importantly the people that you have in your life.

I have a relative that is a complete PITA to be around, totally materialistic and always craving for what he doesn't have to the detriment of his wife and kid's. He lives on several acres loaded with stuff he will never use and has already forgotten that he owns.

Happiness isn't stuff.
Sorry for your loss purplebus. Hope you and yours and your friends' are okay mate.

Happiness isn't stuff.
Never a truer word said - I think.
Having worked in the health industry for 35 years of my life I can assure you that good health is fairly important.

You might have all the money in the world but it doesn't matter a damn if you can't use it. Having lots of money doesn't necessarily make you happy and content. There are many examples of that.

I do have a big wish list that would make life a little easier though! ;)
Happiness is six or more cylinders burning diesel, smelling the fumes and the salt water mix together as it's thrown out the overboard discharge, or hearing the road noise and the turbo whine as you travel 100KM after 100KM after 100KM.

Seriously, there is just something about engines, especially marine, that just makes your heart swell. If I could ask for anything in life, it would be to NEVER lose the sight, smell and sound of traveling with diesel motors.

Raised on boats, couldn't tell?

Cheers,
Mick
Setup the patrol to be more offroad capable. Do the same for 2 more patrols for my brothers. Buy a house. An travel oz for a while. Dont ask for much but time with my family doing what we enjoy.

Maybe portals an a duramax= capable.... Bloody lotto, gotta be in it to win it. But never buy tickets.

Benno love the idea of purchasing an old GM bulldog, they would have to be the best looking locomotive ever built.

I remember as a boy having to always touch one when it pulled into the station. Newport railway museum in Melbourne has one in their collection, the last time I was there you could walk through it from one end to the other. Her are some clips, I hope you enjoy them. Cheers.

Go the 'dogs.

When I was stationed at HMAS Cerberus, the V/Line service was a few old carriages pulled by an A class. damn I loved going into melbourne behind that old girl.

Id even take a CLP or CLF class which are virtually the same thing with a more modern drivetrain (3300hp 16-645 versus 1650hp 16-567B) and chatelle roof.

QRNational even had a few painted in bumble bee colours before that stupid mole **** sold it off. QRN owned subsiduary Australian Railroad Group (ARG) owned a crap load in orange livery too.

Yanks would go crazy over them as the GM E series was retired in the 50/60s.
