Hey guys, looking to buy this turbo setup that a guy had on his TD4.2 but just want to make sure it will be alright on my car. This is it...
garrett gt2876r with the .64 rear housing for fast spooling
extractor style manifold front mount cooler and 2.5 inch pipes
3 inch dump and exhaust.
And what do you think its worth? any help would be great. cheers

a 2876 is a poorly matched turbo, big compressor wheel with tiny exhaust housing. The compressor suits big power but the rear housing will choke any chances of getting anywhere near the potential of the turbo, better off with a 2860 as mentioned.

It will be fine mate there are a few guys on Mudrhino running this turbo on a std pump with very good results, pm gerg or rhys on Mudrhino they will give you some feedback

The turbo will surge like all hell and will definetely prematurely fail, ive been down this line and research all options and no the 2876 is not a good match at all even garrett say its not for single turbo use is good with twin etc the 2860 is great or modded td05 will out go the 2860 also with quick spool and will flow enough for highish boost or go 3071r with the .64 is not as much lag as you think.

I run a 2860RS in my 3.3l diesel and can achieve 14psi by 1800rpm and hold 15psi to 4200rpm. Surely something bigger than a 2860RS would be better on a TD42? Doesn't a TD42 overspin a 2860?

i used a 2871 for a while on a standard pump was fine until i did the pump upgrade and wanted to run 20+psi and got bad comp surge.

2860 generate alot of exhaust pressure and can cause engine demage (head , valves).
but will be fine at low boost. do know a few ppl running 2876 turbos with good results much of the muchness i think. but the 3071 is a good option but will need pump mods to get good results.

thanks for all the replies guys, only reason i've asked about using the gt2876r is because there is a setup for sale second hand. If looking to buy a new i could afford a dts kit or something. cheers

how much is a good pump upgrade worth and is there better places/brands to get them installed etc...?
