Hi All,

My wife and I are looking at driving from Melbourne, up to Alice Springs via the Oodnadatta track.

On the way home, my wife suggested cutting across the Plenty Highway from Alice Springs to Boulia, QLD.

Has anyone does the Plenty Highway ?

Any idea/thoughts about doing it ourselves (early - mid June).

Any other options/thoughts much appreciated.

Last time I did the Plenty Highway it was a great drive. Sections of it were better than the M1 in Brissy. (just graded) But I might have just been lucky. I know it can be closed due to flooding at times. Explore Oz has a Web site that will tell you if its open or not.

Check out the Cattle Water Pass from Altunga in the East McDonnell Ranges up to the Plenty Highway, near Gemtree. It was a fun drive, But leave plenty of time to do it.

Hope this helps.

Try to steer as well clear of the "Pink RoadHouse" as you can.
The &^%$ that runs it will try to rip you for EVERY cent you have.
