My 92 ST30 model seems to be lagging quite a bit when I first start her up... In fact, I have quite a time keeping her idling. Essentially to keep her running I have to pull out the manual choke and lock it in. Otherwise every time I slow to a stop it dies. I've tinkered with the idle screw, but when I set it high enough to keep her running on startup, it raps up to nearly 2000 rpms once everything is warmed up. Once the engine has warmed up and I've been driving a bit, everything seems to function fine and she starts up first go everytime. Is this fairly common?

I also have her on gas, but can't seem to keep it running on gas until everything is warmed up. I have not been able to crank her up on gas first thing - I have to start on petrol right now and eventually switch over....

Any suggestions?

Hmm I'm having the exact same trouble at the moment and have replaced so many things and yet still cant seem to solve this problem so I'm interested too...

TB42 1990 GQ carby w dual fuel;
I've got pertronix, GT40 coil, bosch leads, full carb rebuild, you name it!
pretty keen to hear what the problem actually is, my thoughts have been it might be the auto choke playing funny buggers but how to solve this?

Cheers

Yes I have the ST30 model with an RB30 engine. The length of time depends on the day really...at least that's what it seemed like before. It appeared that every time the temp was a bit cooler this would happen, but now even when it's a pretty nice morning/day it seems to occur. On average, I would say that I have to be running for 20-30 mins at least before the problem seems to right itself. Actually right now, I'm having greater success running on gas believe it or not (not starting it that way)...once I have it switched over, it takes just a few mins and she's idling fine. When I switch back to petrol (which I do before i shut her off so that I can burn out the gas and have some fuel in the carby for next startup) she sputters and coughs and stalls. I'm scratching my head quite a bit over this one, because some days she has seemed to go really well - and others are exactly like what I just described. It's getting a bit frustrating....
