Hi guys...having a real problem with my 2006 Patrol Ute....would appreciate some real advise before going to a mechanic, In 2 wheel drive the ute steer's fine, turns fine, breaks fine, but when 4 wheel drive is selected, while straight ahead in fine...then as you start to turn into full lock....it feels as if the vehicle is pulling up and shudders...the back wheels try to drive the car forward in a straight line to the point where they start to loose traction...even on bitumen....any ideas

don't engage 4WD on bitumen (unless it's a DX with hubs unlocked, then it can be ok, but not recommended for highway) If you have auto lockers they will lock. Otherwise it sounds like the front diff is locking up.

Have you had the car from new? any mods?

THANKS guys ,I guess Im worrying over nothing, but Ive owned a few 4x4 over the years (pajeros mostly) and never notice that while turning..Wallet closed now Im happy.

Google "Transmission windup"
Happens in vehicles with no centre diff.

Is the tyre wear even from front to back. If it is not the tyre diameters are different and this causes transmission windup.
