I you are still unsure here is a simple formula to determine the size of you tyres.

tyre width (mm) / sidewall % of width / rim size (inch)

so say 285/75/16

[tyre width (mm)/25.4(mm/inch)] x 2 x [sidewall % of width] + rim size (inch)

=(285/25.4)*2*.75+16 (ready to be put straight into excel for calculation)

= 32.83"

I made this up for a mate who was confused, I thought I'd share it here.

Yes I know the figures are ever so slightly different, that is because the first table had multiple roundings were this one doesn't. And no, I didn't include split rims/7.5R16.
Let me know if I made a mistake. FYI, this is assuming your state allows a 50mm increase in diameter and width of the tyre, not all states allow this.
Also, typical tyre size per model is direct from Nissan. You can also confirm this on their website.

What size tyres can fit on factory alloys (17")

Thanks for the great information posted above heyhey.

Does anyone know what tyre sizes (or changes to) are legal in QLD and other states?

Nice thread! It is highly important for cay buyer to know this information. Getting the most accurate tyres for your vehicles not only ensures your car's good health but also your safety. Don't just look for what looks cool, you also need to know the proper fitting, accessories and pressure.
