Kumho KL71 muddies?

Anyone had anything to do with the new Kumho KL71 mud tyres?
Damn they look tough!! Pity they only make them up to 33" though.
Check them out on the link below:

Personally I just won’t touch Kumho 4x4 tyres. Everyone I know who has had Kumho's will never use them again. Punchers, excessive wear and little grip.
Furry muff. I just thought they looked pretty horn! I'm loving my MTR's but I think my next tyres will be Mickey T MTZ's, just to give em a go, if they're no good I will definitely go back to MTR's.

directional tread, not very good on side slopes - no lateral grip

and you'd want 2 as spares (L + R)

but if you're happy with the MT/R why go to something different?

Yep I agree with that. I will never go to them again after having tried 1 set a few years ago. No matter how good they look!

Hmmm... I dont know. I think the M/T MTZ's have the right build and tread pattern to be just as good as the MTR's and I like to try things once. If they are no good, then it all just counts for experience I reckon. I was just curious about the Kumho's because I hadn't heard anything about them and the website says crap-all about their construction.
I still have a while to wait before my MTR's wear out anyway!!

sorry to dig up an old thread but thought i would in case there is any more opinions on these KL71's. they are getting quite good reviews and reports in the uk and everyone seems to like them. they are a really good price too. anything to report? here is a couple of pics of a 33/12.50/15 tyre against a couple of 31/10.50's

The new Kumho is getting a lot of positive feed back, its defenetly not the best MT on the market but its great tyre for a cheap price.

You will be heaps happier with MTZs than the old MTRs. The MTR was one of the best MTs a few years ago, three of my mates were running them they have all changed to other MTs and would never go back to a MTR.
would love MTZ's but i'm not willing to pay over $500 AUD for them as you cant get in uk, would have to imort from states! these KL71's are only about $170 AUD so can afford to puncture them ;)
A mate of mine has them on his mazda bravo he seems to think they are alright but are wearing very fast. Also they don't seem to mould must so they are not as good as they could be but then they are very cheap. I wouldn't get them but then that's me.

Mmmmmm? wearing fast isnt good, i do quite a few miles in a year, damn! really want BFG mud's but I'm just being tight! I'm off to try and blag a wheel/tyres/lift kit deal this morning, will see what i can do.;)
The other way to look at it is if they are half the cost then you can buy twice as many. Anyway any tire that gets staked in the side wall is dead regardless of the cost. Maybe run a second set for road use and try them if you are very keen on them.
nah, not got the space to keep an extra set of 5 wheels and tyres, shed already full of junk! just liked the look of these and some guys over here are saying good offroad and good on it too. see what i can come up with today:)

Looks awesome BBW!! :p
I recently had a set of Federal Mud tyres fitted in 285.75R16.

Last weekend we went to the watagans and I could not fault them. We did the same track the 4wd monthly DVD guys did. I dropped them to 22psi and did not have a problem with any part of the track (no lockers!!).

A while back we did some beach driving and they were not as bad as I expected, pretty good actually.

At around $200 each fitted and balanced I could not be happier.

G'day,
I dont know about the kumho mud tyres but I've used their AT tyres a lot over the last few years. I've always got a good run out of them, up to 70000 kms at different times when I've not staked them or ripped them on sharp rocks. I used the logic that I could buy 6 of them for the price of 4 of the premium brands. I could then have two spares and in about 99% of instances they functioned exactly the same as significantly more expensive AT tyres. They are just as stuffed as a premium brand with a rusty railway spike through the side !

My 2c ( probably saved while running kumho tyres ! )
