Hey gents

After driving more then 30tho with no 5th gear I think its time to get it back lol. Have been offered a 02 box but from my undersranding this is the year the sorted the issue with the machining ect ect.

the body is gone so I cant get the month so is there any other way of telling if its the good one?

Without pulling the back off and having a look you can't tell.
I wouldn't trust a 2002 ive rebuilt them for 5th gear.

The 5th gear housing is easy to remove the new gear has a step on each end the old one has only one step so shorter spline area.

I thought the mainshaft was also the issue? Can you remove the backend whilst still in the car mate?

yes The mainshaft was also the issue your right. I looked at pulling the rear housing off in pineapple mans car when I did the reduction gears looked like a bit cramped to work but I believe marks adapters do it in car for there 5th gear ratio change so can be done.
Also if you can see inside the spacer on the mainshaft is visible shorter as it gets replaced with the mainshaft and gear.
