What oil to use in Auto Transmission?

I've had dex III in mine for the last couple of years and the transmission hasn't complained. Having said that, I read sometime back that Valvoline have a synthetic auto oil that is cheaper then Transmax Z but I've never read on here of anyone actually using it. I was thinking of giving it a try next time I swap out the oil.
