What to clean inside of a manifold with?

Previous owner didn't have EGR blocked so inside there's a lot of black stuff which I want to remove. What helps better to clean out the soot? Thanks.

you can use the dry clean for brakes.
It's quik and easy and doesn't kill plastics or rubber parts

I assume you mean the inlet manifold.
Careful you dont use anything caustic or it will eat the aluminium.
Best to scrape it out as well as you can then use solvent based cleaner (carby cleaner)

Intake gunge remover

Hi,
If you remove the intake, use a babies bottle brush and petrol. will come up like new.

I got approx a schooner beer glass of gunge out of my intake manifold by using wife's best spoon. Then just washed it out.. messy job.

As for the ports in the head I scrapped them out and then used a pom-pom I made up. Just damp it in petrol and the black stuff will come out..... time consuming though.

For each port, ensure valves are closed to stop this gunge from possibly entering the cylinder.

SMS Diesel Spares supplied a intake gasket for about $20.

About six hours to carry out, including a cuppa or two.

My 2 bobs worth
