I have a mate who has blown his auto trans on a ZD30. He got it recoed and found that the crank shaft and 10mm of play …………
The mechanic has told him that the motor is stuffed. He got a price to reco engine 6k + reco injector pump to keep the warranty . He also got a quote for a long motor w/out turbo , gaskets , and injector pump for mid 7k . which way would you go ?

Long motor, but shop around and do a search, have seen deals a little cheaper I think. There were some on eBay.

7.5k for the brand new genuine long motor without bolt ons & 4.7K for a rebuilt one on Ebay, both with warranty.

If he is on a budget, get the rebuilt one.

10MM? end float or lateral, If lateral how was it possible to keep oil in the crankcase? I'm only asking cause it dosnt make much sense.

10mm??? who ever told him that needs to go to spec savers for a cheappair of glasses! there isnt 10mm of anything to wear without causeing catastrophic meltdown.

So he has gone in for a Blown transmission and told that motor stuffed, sounds like mechanic has read too many posts on here about the engine and thought heres some easy money.

If trans is stuffed replace it and driveaway or as said get another opinion.

what they all said^^^^^ go else ware then make an informed decision. wow thats the best story i have heard a mechanic use so far.
