Did a search couldnt find what i was after.

About to fit 3 52mm gauges to my GQ 4.2 (EGT, Fuel Gauge and Prob boost) and was wondering where everyone fits them?

Have You put them in/on the dash? Made or bought a housing or fitted them to the pillar etc.

any1 used the gauges holders on ebay?

any1 fitted 2 gauges in place of the ashtray?

Any pics and creative ideas would be great.

Thanks

thanks nissan kid. Nothing wrong with your pics, i have seen gauges mounted like this before and i really like the idea. They look really neat. The only problem i have is 3 gauges and 2 places to fit them:p.

Thanks very much for your input and pic. much appreciated.

I like where you put the UHF.

on one of my gq's i had i made a stainless plate up over the ashtray and across the cig lighter and clock and cut the holes into it. you can fit 4 acros nicely.. so the same as above just with a backing plate over where the ashtray goes and 2 more in there.

Thanks outback, Im glad someone else has done this, i was considering doing something similar, removing the ashtray and making a backing to put 2 of the gauges in and relocated the cig lighter and put the 3rd gauge in its place.

would also be able to keep the clock that way :).

would you have a pic by any chance?

Nissan kid, can you tell me where you got your switches from? Especially the ones with the white light logo's on them.

Cheers

I have three 52mm guages in the cupboard to be fitted some time too, but I think the best option is on top of the centre of the dash in a gauge pod. Plenty of room, and also the gauges will be in a good place to see them easily.

Whatever you do, DON'T PUT YOUR BOOST AND PYRO IN THE CENTRE CONSOLE!!! You can't see the bloody things, and they are an important tool in not blowing up your engine!!!!!

I have my pyro (an auber digital) sitting on the dash above and to the left of the steering wheel (under the dash mat) and my boost gauge is in a pod to the right of the dash next to the pillar. Both easy to see, especially the EGT's. The EGT gauge also has a programmable, bright as hell warning light, which I have set at my desired temperature, and it is invaluable having that warning light as I don't need to keep an eye on what the exact temp is, I just back off if the light comes on (it's EXTREMELY noticeable due to my gauge location)

There is a thread on here somewhere with loads of pics of peoples aftermarket gauges. Not sure which section I looked at it ages ago when I was wondering the same thing.

I have got a combined boost/egt gauge which sits at the little gap between the top of the dash and the a pillar on the driver side.

I have 3 more gauges to go in and I bought a 3 gauge holder thing of e bay that covers up the gap when you go from double din to single din. Seems there is a walet space below the stereo on a gq, I intend on removing this and inserting the 3 gauges here.

Here is a link to the product

tow pig: On top of the dash in a pod from "Department Of The Interior" It wasn't cheap but it's made to suit your gauges and has weathered years in the pilbara sun. I wish I'd got the recessed tray in the top for bits and pieces.
you can get 5 gauges in one, or three and a small UHF radio. or two and a DIN sized radio.

comp car: Holesawed clearance holes straight through the dash between the glove box and the OMFG handle. Mounted the gauges to an aluminium plate and screwed that into the dash with lots of self tappers. Very easy for the navi to see what is going on. gauges are all mounted crooked so that normal operating condition is 12 o clock. A very quick glance will tell you if anything is wrong, even from the drivers side.

GQshayne: Thanks for your reply, This is definely one the the places im considering. easy to see if something was to go wrong.

Outback : Thanks, that would be great.

Nissan Kid: All good mate, we're all here to help each other :D

marin: Thanks marin, interesting that you mention that location is no good for visibility, i ive seen a few fitted there (removed the clock and cig lighter) and you make a very good point about your gauge lighting up at your desired temp. I think my gauge also has this function so ill keep that in mind, thanks.

vanderbro: Cheers mate, thanks for the pic.

silverbar: thanks for the pic, i have thought about mounting them on the RHS of the dash next to the pillar but have never seen a gauge mount suitble until your pic, Cheers. I know what you mean about the wallet area below the stero, i was thinking of fitted them there too but they do not fit without filling a fair bit of the cover out, and this location would also make it difficult to see the gauges, especially if something was going wrong like high EGTs etc and you were not looking at the time. whats Double din/single din????

Esses: Thanks for the pic .The 3 gauge holder on the top of the dash is exactly what i thinking of getting and mounting like yours.Ive seen a few on ebay, Are they any good? has yours faded or crack from the sun etc.
Looks neat and tidy. Did you drill a hole in your dash for wires etc?

MikeH: Thanks, is your dash mount similar to esses's? I"ll be in the pilbara area mid year
:D

Glenry. yes the holder is fine. No fading or cracking & plenty of room behind the gauges (standard Speco or VDO 2"). Was very easy to mount & the gauges are VERY visible to the driver. Yes, you have to drill (or cut) a hole up through the dash but at least there's enough room to work under there. I actually started with a 2-spot holder but changed to the 3-spotter. There's enough room on the dash for 2 x 2-spotters if you want but then you'd need 2 holes underneath. Good luck with it.:)
