IF I had one fitted "cough cough" ;) ... I would take mine off every time.

Nissan WILL annotate the service records on the Computer database accordingly showing a Chip was fitted to the vehicle.

My chip has been in since nearly new, removed it for the first few services then couldn't be bothered any more, they never said a word. It comes down to the old question often spoken of here, do you have a good relationship with the dealer and are they fair dinkum.

But it will be marked on your cars history.

FWIW, for the 1minute to replace it, do it if you have warranty. If you are out of warranty it doesnt matter.

Hi,

I work at the Nissan Dealership in Cleveland. Noticing your post. I got your vehicle license plate from your garage photo and noting you have installed a chip I have already logged into your customer file and scrapped your warranty.

So don't bother removing the chip anymore :)

Bit of tongue in cheek but dont for a second think that is not at all far from reality. I have spent 99% of my car ownership with performance turbo's and especially mitsu and subaru. I have worked with ralliart, know dozens of people from STi, mitsi and audi/merc. I can tell you as fact that forums and club meets are used frequently as places of interest to tag vehicals for warranty voids. Add police TOG's to the list for illeagel mods.

Dont for a second think the guys throwing spanners on your car aren't up with what goes on and what to look for. They deal with it day in and day out and you're not pulling any wool over their eyes....

And lets not mention that we're referring to a company that will burn a warranty because you scratched your nuts at the wrong time or brushed your hair the wrong way. A mod like a chip that a 1st week apprentice could pick up (installed OR REMOVED) is seriously taking the pi$$.

You bad, bad person TET for even thinking about fitting one..You would be "Tagged" and rowed out to Christmas Island whist your Patrol is burned at the stake by Nissan mechanical type people. It's a good thing that you do not have one.

I second what the evil twin said.

My boss has had his current model Hilux back at Toyota no less than 10 times for various warranty issues, with the Steinbauer unit and Beaudesert exhaust fitted, and they have never said a thing. Either they never noticed or maybe they just couldn't be bothered to make a fuss about it?

Yeah, and i'll bet none of the warranty issues could be traced back to the chip! Toyota are playing hardball as well as any other manufacturer at the moment, so it isn't just nissan. I think a lot depends on the dealer and their customer support.

As an aside, had the CRD serviced today and had a chat to the service manager about fuel systems etc. Mentioned about fuel pump problems on the later models with dirty fuel, and he just laughed, reckons they see very few problems with Nissans compared to Hyundai's, which they also sell.

And just to be a real bundle of joy, some of the new dash replacements are bubbling again within six months. Cheers

Well one of the issues was actually injectors which definitely involves the chip! Also if they wanted to be real ******s they could have said the 3 clutches and 2 gearboxes its had were from the extra power caused by the chip.

Doubt they could blame the injectors on a chip, as it's a known issue, but i reckon your right about the other stuff. Seems to be two types of dealers, those who support the customer and those who are right up the manufacturers [email protected]

For example, I've asked two dealers about the fuel sedimenter fitted to my vehicle and the warranty.
One didn't have a clue and it showed, the other said it was ok, and if i had a problem they wouldn't mention it was fitted anyway. Guess who services my vehicle?

My 2 cents - Nissan dealers are businesses, and businesses are there to make money - so of course they will happily continue to service your vehicle and take your money, regardless of what you have done to the car. If they tell you that your warranty is void, you will probably just start going elsewhere for cheaper services, and they don't want that! So they keep their trap shut and keep taking your money.

Then you lodge a warranty claim... what do you think will happen?

No different to insurance - tell your insurer that you have 35" tyres when you pay for your policy, they'll note it on the paperwork. But they won't warn you that your policy is void... they want your money! Lodge a claim and see if they will honour the agreement... why would they when your car is illegally modified.

Not rocket science...
