Hey guys long time reader first time poster. As the title says my 08 ZD30 CRD has developed a rattle from around the exhaust manifold area when its hot, at first i thought it was the idler or alternator pulley's but the noise is definately coming from the exhust mani area. Has anyone else experienced this?

It may pay to check that all the bolts are tight, especially if you've installed an aftermarket exhaust.

Thanks for the quick reply Ray, i've only recently puchased the car and it does appear to have an aftermarket dump as the heat shield looks to have been modified.

There's a good chance then that something has come loose. I have an aftermarket exhaust and all three of the dump pipe bolts came loose one day and the bracket from the dump pipe to the block has also broken (which I've left as is). You may need to remove the heat shield to see whether the dump pipe bolts are OK, if you can't get your hand in to feel them.

Check your egr pipe near the dump pipe mine snapped there and rattles

Ill have a looksy when i get back from work, it does only do it once the car is hot though thats the part thats got me a bit puzzled.

I had this exact issue on mine with a standard exhaust. the bracked was still attached to the exhaust, but the inner ring piece around the bolt head had let go. some washers saw me rattle free.

Got it in one mate, only wish i,d noticed before i took that b*&ch of a heat shield off and re-tightened all the bolts on the turbo and manifold, found the bung for the EGT guage was a bit loose and thought that was it but went for a drive and it was still there, got back under the car with it running and there it was staring me in the face. The bolt was undone about 5mm and the washer was rattling, but when i did it up it broke, i've jammed some gasket material in between the bracket and block for now to stop the rattle until i drill and tap the hole and put a new bolt in.
