So I’ve recently bought a gu1 with the zd30 Di in it. 275xxx kms (was rebuilt at 210xxxkm, have receipts)

I’ve had starting issues that was only once it was at op.temp but is getting worse. Had it scanned and the only dtc that came up was cam angle sensor BUT the only thing I can find regarding cam sensor is for crd.
I’ve seen one post on here asking about it and someone reckons they don’t have one?
Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem/ code come up and how they rectified the issue

I haven’t had your problem but have recently replaced all my sensors and this is the only one I think would cause that problem. In this picture you’ll see the wire going to the crank pulley, that’s the “cam angle sensor” that’s really a crank angle sensor and it sensors the top dead center of each piston. Hope this helps?

That is really helpful. So when I go to get the sensor do I get the cam sensor that is listed at auto barn for the Di (which Is really for crd) or so I get a crank angle sensor?

My previous patrol was a di and I had the same symptoms as you at one stage. That's the sensor they replaced and it fixed the starting and intermittent cut out issues.

Thought they called it a crank angle sensor. Anyway, surely the auto shop has a pic of what they are quoting and where it sits?
Cheers

On the Di, there is one 'Cam sensor', but inside the IP :
DTC 0701 P1zCAM POS SEN

CAM RING POSITION SENSOR
The sensor detects the passing of the protrusion on the sensor wheel in the injection pump by the semiconductor magnetic resistance element sensor. The cam ring position sensor synchronizes with the cam ring, and detects the actual advance amount. The injection pump control unit measures the injection pump revolution by the signal of the cam ring position sensor.

Check the tech manual in the archive, EC page 1119.

There is otherwise a crank position sensor
DTC 0407 CRANK POS SEN (TDC)
The crankshaft position sensor (TDC) monitors engine speed by
means of signals from the sensing plate (with three protrusions)
installed to the crankshaft pulley. The data signal output is
detected at ATDC 70° and sent to the ECM. The sensor signal
is used for fuel injection control and fuel injection timing control

EC page 1140.

They can get a picture of it, however they can’t tell me where it is they can only tell me what it looks like so they are only sort of helpful.

So going off that, my fault is the sensor on the IP. He said that it I’d definitely a cam position sensor code not a crank angle code. That just makes it more confusing because is that sensor internal or external to the pump? Because like I originally said, the only cam sensor that is listed for a Di appears to be an external and is the same as the crd cam sensor that is on the front of the head.

If that’s the case then I think you’ll be up for a new injector pump because as far as I’m aware you are unable to purchase that separately. Call Diesel Central and have a chat to them, they recondition our DI injector pumps.

@Lucass89 I would suggest you do what Jake suggests, Diesel Central are the experts on IP as far as I'm concerned, have spoken to them many times before I bought a new pump and injectors from them last year and visited there business at Gracemere, if you can get to talk to Shawn Swaffield (mention P4x4 as a reference) he knows just about everything there is to know about the VP44, nice guy and actually owns a ZD30 with lots of grunt. The number is 0749334310.

That sensor is INTERNAL.
Do what Ross suggests. Go and see a VP44 specialist.
