Hey all just wanted to ask the question if it's normal for the zd30 to sometimes blow a bit of black smoke on start up and take of from traffic lights? So far have dawes/needle valve, blocked egr but no catch can as of yet.

Mines the same as yours with catch can and 145k on it and it blows smoke at startup.

Mine does too on some occassions, mainly in the cold I think at start up, haven't noticed anything taking off from the lights, probably because I'm looking ahead not behind.

Yeh I just look in mirrors sometimes and notice a puff of smoke only at night it's noticable

Hi Mate, you may need to define a "bit" of black smoke, they all do that if your definition is the same as mine, light puff lasting a couple of seconds. The state of your air filter can also have an impact on this. After owning my ZD30 Troll for 10 years I have come to know the benefits of maintaining a clean air filter.

Catch can won't stop black smoke as it is catching oil mist from the engine which will produce light coloured smoke if excessive.

I thought mine didn't blow any smoke until the missus drove it off down the street. Either she has a heavy right foot or it's normal. Both methinks!

That said, my old lux used to smoke like a hungry jacks chimney under the lightest of throttle!
