Hey guys

I took my turbo off to check for wear & tear. Im the 2nd owner and the previous service history was average. The turbo was going ok and not over/under boosting.

I was wondering, now that I have it off, can I pull it apart and give it a good cleaning or should I take it to a turbo professional for a service?

Also, what should I use as a seal as seen in picture 1. I noticed it was weeping a bit before I pulled it off.

There was a thread on here a few years ago about a forum member pulling his turbo apart and cleaning out the internals etc, it was full of crap.
Now that you have it off its prolly a good idea to have it checked at least.

the exhaust vanes are known to stick due to all the crap. theres a write up somewhere on pulling variable turbo's apart and cleaning them up.
Have seen the thread myself but have just tried all the usual word associations and can't find it. Dano, you will need to dedicate some time to finding it.

The seal in the pic is a $2.60 gasket from Nissan. Clean both mating faces before assembly. DO NOT reuse the old gasket. DO NOT USE ANY GASKET SEALANT. It will block the oil feed hole and you will blow the turbo in under a minute. (Thats how I killed my turbo :) )
