Hi All!

I have been doing a lot of research into this and have decided to change and mount my compressor under the Drivers Seat and explain why. :)

I will at a later date install Front and Rear Lockers and this can be done with it under my seat..

I have had the same compressor under my bonnet for a year and just looking at it and listening to it you can clearly hear being under the bonnet has taken life away..

Under the bonnet the compressor would reach crazy temperatures, Under the seat would only get to what it says on the box..

I also found I was always replacing relays due to heat and water, since being under the seat not once replaced a Relay.

My reasons for putting it under the seat were a couple of things
1. The heat! the only really place in the patrol GU it fits is the passenger side firewall near the AUX Battery, this is near the turbo and exhaust, hot air rises the compressor is going to heat up! especially when the lockers are engaged.
2. Mud and Water everything you drive through is going to enter the engine bay and get to the compressor, no matter how much you seal it up there going to get filthy and have issues.
3. without cleaning the compressor properly from the mud you drove through and it stays dirty the heat fins on the compressor cant evaporate the heat and thus causes issues...
4. you still have to open your bonnet to get to your compressor,
5. under the seat I open my door and pull my hose out and start airing up! I save 15-20 seconds just having it under my seat!
6. it takes 5 minutes to remove the seat and its so easy to install the compressor rather then fiddle around under the bonnet.

under the drivers or passenger seat you automatically remove 3 stages that ruin a compressor, Water, Mud and heat.

Under the seat as you can see in the picture I have cut down the vents so on a really hot day I can crank the air con on cold and aim the air flow onto feet and it will get cold air flowing onto it

Under the seat you can run external exhaust for the lockers and being under the seat it doesn't heat up no where near as much as under the bonnet.

There are pros and conns for both, but being under the seat your $500 compressor will be safe. Under the bonnet you expose it to everything. if you choose to run lockers there are little rubber grommets that you pull out and run your hose/wire through.

That's my 5 cents worth, ive researched it and had mine under the bonnet and experienced conns...

let me know your opinion :)

does the compressor run all the time while your lockers are engaged? (ive never owned air lockers) Or does it run until the air lines to the locker are charged with air then it switches off? having a running compressor under the seat would annoy the **** out of me!

If you get the Locker cylinder like in the picture , then when you switch the locker on, it should only turn on for a bit then switch off once the cylinder has reached pressure, with the pressure in the cylinder its enough to put the locker in, and will only power up again if the cylinder drops pressure>

In saying that you would only use the lockers in cases where you needed them, they wouldnt be on all the time :)
