Hey, I'm Steve. I have a turbo tb42 GQ ti model. It has a gt3540, 38mm external gate, big front mount cooler, 4" intake, microtech lt10 engine management, 650cc injectors, 2" lift, 33s and few other bits n peices. Ive only just finished the turbo set up and in the running phase now, seeing what kind of fuel efficiency I can get from the guts of a thing with the turbo.

Quick update, had time to do a bit of tuning, 650cc injectors are maxing out at 10psi with standard rail pressure. I have a bigger fuel pump and rising rate regulator to fit when I re install the factory fuel tank so will see how that goes. Along with the fuel supply I found the limit of the clutch at 10psi, it slips when I get full boost in 3rd and 4th so going to back the boost off to 7psi and see how much efficiency it gets compared with when it was naturally aspirated.

So since I started this post I've had a couple of problems. One is my cast exhaust manifold cracked in half and have had to repair it for now till I have time to knock up a pipe manifold. The second is I checked the shaft play on the turbo yesterday and it has waaayyyyy too much! Chinese gt35 turbo although looks really good quality to inspect has crap bearings, gonna swap it out with a t70 my mate has and see if I can rebuild it and put some genuine garrett internals in it… if they fit haha.

I have a garrett t70 which is rated at same power as thr gt35 but the turbines are slightly smaller and smaller turbine housing so should boost up faster as its hitting boost at 2500rpm now so if I can get boost at 2000rpm I'll be happy. Also going to build a tube manifold and mount the turbo a little bit further forward for more firewall clearance

Did you ever get numbers on this as far efficiency? In Canada, have a td42 that I turbo'd and the power, response, and fuel economy definitely made it worth while. Wondering if the same would be true for the tb42, if I was looking for just that (power, response, efficiency)?
Looks good. Sorry if this thread is dead.
