Seeking help. I have an 04/2006 4.2tdi coil cab Ute. I need to increase the gvm. Can I do this by installing A leaf spring rear axle. It’s on Qld registration if this is relevant. I already have a plated gvm of 3465kg based on suspension upgrades but need another 200kg or so. All comments appreciated. Max

Hi, I have just gone through this process for my 4.8 lit and have only been able to achieve 3300kg on the wagon as this is the max that the Qld transport will permit. If you allready have 3465 you are doing well. I have been able to establish that leaf springs appear to have higher GVM rating but my belief is that it is still around 3300kg.
There is another option that will give you about 3800kg but very expensive, the use of pods, they are from a Victorian company ata cost of about $26,000 these also provide a 4 inch lift.
If you are near Brisbane you can chat to a company called ASB Engineering here is the link ..... ASB engineering services modification plate and engineering services, 4/10 maiella st Stapylton, Stapylton (2020)
I think you are a bit optimistic with 3465kg but please let me know how you go. Regards John

If your in QLD and near the sunshine coast, call Jo from custom vehicle services. He used to be able to get you to 3550gvm. Not sure if the rules have changed but he helped with mine. You can even do the work yourself and then get him to certify it if you use the components he's had tested.

Only to suit the 3.0l. That's all they got ADR approval for. There's a reason but I can't remember what it is.
