Poor customer relations! TJM Hunter Valley, Wallsend.

I'm sorry about the long story but.....
Just wondering if anyone else has had such difficult time dealing with TJM Hunter Valley, Wallsend. I bought a GME UHF radio from them on the 20/08/2011 and got to use it twice before the clip that secures the hand piece to the radio broke. I took it in to them that week (approx 2 weeks after I bought it) and they told me to call them when I got home to give them my invoice number, which I did.
About 2 weeks after that I got a call from them saying that they hadn't received the invoice number from me but GME was going to fix it under warranty and could I give them the invoice number again. About 15 minutes later I realised that I had my receipt on me at work so called them back and asked for the person that I was dealing with. They said he was with a customer at the time but if I gave them all the information and they would pass it on to him.
Just after Christmas I called into their shop as on their website they said they would be open but unfortunately they were not. I was then forced to borrow a mates dads UHF for my trip away over new years eve.
I returned to their store on the 4th of January to ask them where my radio was and was offered absolutely no apology other than they hadn't received my invoice number which i had given them several times before. They told me that GME weren't due back to work until the 9th of January and I should wait till then. I haven't heard back from them yet.
I have asked them for my money back with no luck! They know my story and that I have done all that has been asked of me and no apologies! I have called the ACCC for advice but it doesn't look like they can help. The next step is the Department of fair trading.
I have done nothing wrong by anyone except to buy something off a business with no good customer relations! I'm just wondering if anyone else out there has dealt with a shop like this and what there is that I can do to resolve my problem! And what are the chances of having my warranty extended because I have on ly had my radio for around 2 weeks?

That sucks man,
I'd try calling GME direct and tell them your story and make sure you state your not happy about the run around and that TJM has made it look like GME are the ones giving the run around...... if you know what I mean.
Good luck with it.

I don't want to sound like a wowser, but maybe edit the title so it doesn't tar all TJM stores with the same 'bad service' brush? I just ordered some bit from a TJM store in Brisbane and they were excellent. Hopefully it is only an isolated incident (for the rest of us anyway!)

This is straight from the ACCC consumer goods act

Minor failures
Minor failures to comply with a consumer guarantee can normally be fixed or resolved in a reasonable amount of time. In this case, the seller can choose to offer you a refund, replacement or repair or, in the case of services, resupply.
This must be provided free of charge and within a reasonable time depending on the circumstances.
If the seller refuses to fix the problem or takes too long, you may be able to get it fixed by someone else and recover the costs from the seller.

So go back and stand at the counter and demand a fix there and then as they are breaking the law, if by delaying they think they can claim you didn't claim in time and its too late to supply a solution to the fault, ask them for the head office phone number and make a complaint while you are standing in the store.

TJM in Wallsend is particularly terrible, in my experience. I went in there when I bought my Pajero shortie and wanted quotes for bar work, snorkel, suspension, and a Polaris GPS. I was looking at around $6k worth of work and because I live in an apartment and don't have a shed, I was basically wanting to leave the car with them and wave my Amex card at it until it was done.

I could not attract the interest of a single salesman. When I finally got someone to talk to me and told them what I wanted, his first comments were "What do you want all that for? It's not like a Pajero will ever go off road", and then when convinced I did indeed want to go off road, flat out refused to quote me for a bar with foglights (the Pajero has OE foglights which I wanted to keep) because "foglights are for poofters and Europeans".

Needless to say ARB Broadmeadow got my business instead ($7.2k all up) and I haven't even considered TJM now I'm kitting out my Patrol, it will go straight to the ARB guys for a similar treatment.

I've never been to a different TJM store, so maybe the others are better, but my experience has been forever tarnished by their store at Wallsend. As I've never actually had any work done there, I can't vouch for how well they do it - maybe the guys out the back are great.

My local TJM store is awesome most times if there not to busy they pick up and drop off my Patrol. They resolved a problem with a broken latch on my dual spare wheel carrier which was nearly two years old and way out of warranty without question. So no problems here with my local TJM store.

UV4X4 when they were TJM...

I wont elaborate too much but for $2k worth of stuff they pretty much managed to **** up, lie, be generally useless and unapologetic. This was in 07 but still about it.

At the time i was in the navy and had a few days leave and was back in bris. Not really having much spare time I thought fark it and I thought Id just get someone to install a complete 2nd battery system.

Well they ****ed up thier quote, left tools in the vehicle, the arogant little **** on the front counter almost got pulled over it and this was the second time I had to take the vehicle to them. When I was out there getting some prices they came in very reasonable so I went with them and arranged a date for the install which was printed on the invoice. rock up thier with the GU on that day to be told sorry we dont have the battery tray in stock and it will be two weeks before one does come in..... and was then told that this was ok as I was going back to sea and would all be ok for when I had my next break.

Still hate those ****s.....

Years ago I had a TJM long-range tank installed in my MQ, some time after, it started to leak fuel and I discovered that they'd gas axed the bolt holes (in situ), as they didn't fit, and left all the slag etc in place. The support bracket had been welded on at an incorrect angle and the stress had cracked the tank where it was welded onto the tank. TJM head orifice wanted me to send the tank to Queensland, at my cost, so that their engineers could inspect it, even after taking it to another TJM dealer who said that the tank was defective. Never touched their products again. Maybe it was just a one off.

Cheers

Pffffft! They wouldn't talk shop until I booked my vehicle in! Dunno about you, but I want their BEST PRICE prior to booking it in. Ironman gave me a large discount off the bat, so I booked it in then and there. TJM are out to rip everyone off.

I should add though, that when I was after some headlight upgrade units for dads gq, they wanted $185 for them. I said another shop does them for $140, so I'll give you $120. They said "sold". But that was TJM Nerang.

Chalk and cheese the professionalism between ARB and TJM. Every experience I have had with TJM had not bend a happy one. I'll never go back again.

I've dealt with opposite lock once with my dual wheel carrier supply and install and could not have Ben have been happier. Great product and service.

They should have the serial number of the radio recorded on their records to match up with your invoice as well so it shouldn't be too hard. In most cases GME want the unit sent to them for any warranty claim so they wouldn't send it away until at least the 9th. It'd be a few days before they'd get it and look at it too.
What clip broke? The mic plug that connects into the radio?

And on top of all that they're bloody pricey. At least that was my experience visiting the shop in OConnor here in WA. Very nice gear but you needed to be ARB ( another rich b@strard) to buy kit from there without shopping around.

Well just a little update for those interested.
I rang GME in Sydney this afternoon and told them about my situation. They asked for the serial number from my radio and surprise surprise, they hadn't received anything from TJM. The last radio that they sent them that was similar to mine was back in May 2010.
GME told me to go back in there and ask for my radio back, telling them that they haven't received it from them and then send it to GME for repairs. So it looks like yet again I'll be heading back in there on my way home from work tomorrow and will not be leaving until I either have my radio or my money back! Hopefully it will be the last time that I have to deal with them, unless it's in court or something, haha.

i was at the gold coast camping and what not show and went to buy a tjm snatch strap. ticketed price was 50 bucks down from 80. so though bargin. get to the counter that will be 90 bucks. i go wtf man your ticket says 50. his reply oh yeah it does. chit ey.
so i gave him my 50 bucks and vouched to never walk into tjm nerang again(this is who was running the stall there)
though the tjm up here was pretty good about getting my recaro in for me.

I'm probally lucky then hey.

Atleast I didn't fall for the crap that comes out of the mouths of the A.. salesmen.

The reason there is TJM stickers on the side of my GU is because of the bad service I recieved elsewhere. Money was never an issue. Its all about the service.

Had pretty average service from tjm Beudesert the one and only time I used them. Wasn't by choice. Brought two 85L Evakool fridges from a Brisbane 4x4 show at RNA showgrounds and was told at the counter to take my receipt into tjm to collect my items exactly 3 days after. I left it a week, called to make sure they were there and was told yes. Rocked up to a 40L engel and a Waceo sitting there with different names invoice numbers etc on them. Still tried to tell me they were mine lol.

Long story short after about 5 times back and forth and being handed around many useless salespeople I finally got my fridges and one guy offered to help me to the car with them. I though best service you've given so far. Wrong.
As he helped me to the car he proceeded to insult me about the purchase i just made, (stating i just brought '****' fridges), had a go at me about car I was driving telling me a bloke as young as me shouldnt have that much money, and tried showing me up. I took his help putting my two brand new fridges in the back of the 200 series wagon and as i left i asked him how long it would take him to save and buy it all. Didn't matter that the car was my parents and only one of the fridges was mine!

TJM in Traralgon are ok. . . . People are a bit funny, and only like selling "legal" stuff to campers and tourists but that's all big 4wd shops nowadays pretty much.

ARB in Traralgon on the other hand. . . . . are idiots. Treat customers like crap. Rude to everyone. If you aren't just bolting new bits onto a new car, you can **** off as far as they are concerned.

Hacks me off because its inconvenient to have to drive to Warragul(50km+ each way)to buy ARB gear. and its not like they couldn't have a prosperous relationship with me if they were nice to me. . . . i buy a bit of gear.

My local ARB shop (westside ARB brisbane) give good service. the guy who runs it can be a bit blunt sometimes, but you just give it back to him... it's like a game really(he's a jeep guy - yom you'll be right at home there). All in good fun. Service there is great and a very high quality of work as well.

I will defiantly not hesitate sending people there!!

My only experience with TJM was with trying to buy a winch cradle to suit the T15 Bullbar, it was listed at something like $300 dollars.

OK so I am nearly ready to part with the $ excessive as it now was when on top of what the winch 'compatable' bar already costs.
Problem is no store that I rang had one in stock so I enquired about getting one from a local (to me) TJM agent instead at which point I was tole I would have to pay extra for freight, but hang on I said, you have to freight it to any one of your stores anyhow, why the extra?

Ended up getting rid of the TJM bar and putting on a second hand Nissan bar for the price of the cradle simply because of the freight charge.

I had a bad experience at a tjm - went to get a new motor for my warn 9.5 xp - was told "why waste money on an old winch when you can get a new one for the same price" Ummmm mine is a 3G winch and so the $600 for a new motor is worth it, that is a $600 winch for a reason

mate, had problems with bed companies, yada yada yada. best way I found is NEVER PHONE, go down to the shop where you bought it with your receipt and documents, complain at the main desk in front of everyone there. As soon you you start phoning they will just take a message and no one ever comes back! I had some trouble with a sydney model car company, the car was for my sons birthday and cost $350! I opened the box but the controler was missing, called them and they said that because I had opened the box my shop warrently was not valid! went down there and complained face to face, told them that if they did not refund I would start an anti facebook campaign and do a youtube video on their customer support and the company and link it to every model website I could find. I had a refund within 10 mins! suggest you do the same, take the inititive and dont be the victim, the law is on your side! these arseholes are just bullies!

Only had good experiences at TJM in Wollongong. Knowledgeable and courteous staff and usually happy to do a deal. ARB, same town, different story - you'd be lucky to get them from behind the counter even if you stood in the middle of the shop and screamed 'I want to spend $30,000 in this shop right now'.

I started my working life in automotive retail, worked my way up to managing a couple of stores. Some staff are bone idle lazy and see customers as an inconvenience to their social chats (which go all day). Those type of staff never lasted long on my watch. For some of the staff, they had no ambition, no motivation and no work ethic - but happy to roll up day after day, collect the meagre pay check, go home and p!ss is up against a wall. Much harder to keep the truly good staff as they seek out opportunities to do a better job and are naturally rewarded for it.

These days, with the advent of the internet most customers are better informed about the products than the sales staff so the push now tends to be for lowest price rather than knowledge and service.
