If you are like me you are a little tired of hearing 'you can't rebuild it you have to replace it' whenever there is something amiss with the 3.0 litre. Generally unaccompanied by any explanation. I have heard this for,

motor
diesel pump
ECU
turbo

However here is some information on the VNT turbos. Admittedly US based but I think the real reason that turbo rebuilders are being denied parts for VNT turbos is actually in the first page.

Good find Ross, I have found only one place in Sydney where they can rebuild our turbo. They are hesitant to do this now as it can (and has previously) take them a long time to set the turbo back up in sync with the ECU. Real PITA they wreckon!

I was able to get them to do it (if required in the future) as long as they do not need to play with the VNT setting / ECU - too easy for me I said as I have bypassed my ECU ;).

Cheers,

I'll remember that Whitie. Thanks for the info.

Well I swapped my whinging whining turbo out today for a new one from Nizzbits. One of the good blokes on the forum as you well know.

Buying the newie was a very good decision.

Ever since the motor rebuild the old one had been a bit noisy. When I opened it up I was shocked and stunned and not a little amazed (thanks Billie)

I'm not sure if some of this happened when the motor blew or not, but a number of the vanes have been twisted out of shape, obviously with intense heat.

So pyro and dawes valve here we come.

Just gotta save some sheckels now after paying for the turbo.
