new cab will be cheaper that a repair to that. unless you can do it yourself but you have alot to take on.

 

You'ld be better off getting a new cab or cutting down a wagon one. You'll never really know how far you have to go until you strip it right down. Even if you fix the sills, by the look of how bad that is, you'll be finding a lot more and it may be too thin to repair.

I bought a Kingswood ute and it only looked like rusted out crowls, I bought replacement panels and welded them in. Then I rubbed it all down for a paint and found 50% of the cab had rust, it took me 1 year and a chit load of time effort and money for steel/panels, welder supplies, grinding stuff, bog, paint, etc. Its just sometimes not worth it.

A mate of mine picked up a whole ute with no motor for a grand, pinched the body and sold all the panels, diffs, etc off and come out even, just down on time.

 

Yeah thinking about getting another cab but there so rare.. my boss said he can oxy weld an braise it if i supplied the sills..

 

Stuff Oxy welding and braising! What does your boss do, plumbing? Thats not how to fix a cab!

 

Mate nothing wrong with the oxy for car pannels, just takes more skill to prevent to much warp. I have repaird many pannels with my oxy and they come out looking better than most done with a mig. Althoug the I was taught by my father who still lead fills

Geez, I would be reaching for the oxy last. I'ld rather buy a $300 gasless MIG and use that. Oxys put WAY too much heat into the panels and you'll burn through or really stuff the metal before getting a decent weld.

 

Re-shell job for sure.

 

your gonna need sills, floor pan. pillars most likely.
honestly your only real option is to reshell.

 

If the body is like that there is a fair bet that the chassis is not much chop either. It looks like a fishing rig that has spent a bit of time in the salt water. Have a real good look at the whole vehicle it may be that you scrap it. At the least it is unroadworthy and at worst a DEATH trap.

 

That's probably easier to do a cab swap mate.

Welding (braising) is actually illegal on a car mate. It's frowned upon on in every state as it's a very weak weld which cracks easily.

Yeah i might have look into another cab.. my chasis is in heaps good cond an my tray needs a spray but thats after i deal with my cab..

Man that sucks. I know it's buyer beware, but, fair dinkum, sellers that go to the lengths they do to hide that sought of crappola really need to be hung out to dry on top of a bull ants nest.

I'd be checking the chassis by tapping it all over with a hammer real good before chucking any more money at that puppy.

That would have to be pretty disheartening to find that.

You really don't know the extent of the damage until you start grinding it back. Personally, it looks to far gone for a decent repair. You may find your self putting much time effort and money into it before realising your better off with another cab.

If it were mine, id just patch it up for now and start looking for a cab. Weld/rivet some plates in it until you find a cab, it sounds like your only option.

Mate, first do a vapor wash in your trol, hole by hole, specially in her chassis.

Get a wagon that's had the rear quarters farked... Extra cab HELLOOOOO!!!!!

Take it back to the bloke who sold it to you and demand he give you your hard earned back! At the very least take it to the place that did the roadworthy!
