Ive done a search and found threads covering the subject but non that give a solid answer.

I have an early TD42. What oil filters should I be using. Two the same or two different?

It has two the same on it at the moment. (99% sure).

I also read that it will take over 9 litres of oil! Is this right?

Thanks for the reply mate.

Thats a lot of oil eh.

The oil filters that are on there now are branded Purolator L30257.

Thanks again.

I use genuine Nissan filters. They are not much different in price to the aftermarket versions. Though I must say these are the only items I have bought from Nissan without having to leave a couple liters of my blood to pay for.

Same here, 2 the same for early TD42's. About $10 each from Nissan for the Nissan brand ones. Not made by Nissan anyway lol.
Yep mine takes about 11lts including filters.

Unless you can read the filter numbers on it, you probably won't know if they are two the same or if one is a fullflow and the other a bypass filter. I have a 1991 which has two different filters and a 92 which has two of the same.

The numbers are on the ends so can read them no probs.

Both have the same numbers.

That what I was worried about though Canuck. Puting 2 the same on when they should be different.

Impossible to put two of the same on. The thread size (and pitch I believe) is different.

The correct Fleetguard part no is LF3659 for the early TD42 and not LF3314 fyi. Its been discussed to death, just look at the bottom of this page as a starter.
So what year do you class as early? mine is 91 and i'm using 2 x LF3314's.

Yes that's an interesting one, the Fleetguard cat says LF3659 however if you cross ryco number Z115 in the Fleetguard system if goes to LF3314. The LF3314 is a fair bit cheaper to me.

Exactly. Only ever convert once from the OEM part no to the aftermarket makers catalogue. Never cross reference within aftermaket part numbers - it doesnt work !

The TD42 is a tuff old dog and will work with many filters. But the fact is that the OEM part No 43G00 translates to Fleetguard LF3659 and nothing else in the Fleetguard line up. So if you want to fit a filter that meets the specs of the original, you only have one choice in Fleetguard - LF3659. Fit something else and you are moving into the unknown, yes it'll work, but how do you know its th best or running at its optimum ? Mate says so, such and such says so on the web, he's done 500kkm on his with no probs ? Umm, I prefer to use the minds of Nissan and Fleetguard, at least they warranty their decisions and do know what they are talking about. No BS !

tom, whats the difference between the two fleetgaurd filters?
and when does "early" stop for the td42?
ive got a 97 ute, and my mate works for cummins, got me 6 LF3314 for $34.80.
that was what the computer told him should be in my car, can you shed some light for me?

cheers, andy

Have you tried looking at the Fleetguard web site ?

I don't know for your engine. I have only researched it for my na 1993 TD. I did note there was different filters between the turbo and na versions. Perhaps that is part of the confusion ?

Confusion reigns - its a good job that the TD42 is a tough old nail !
