I bought new bolts when I did mine. It wasn't that bad, but I replace it no questions asked. I also Used Loctite 515 to seal the surfaces of the housings Its not an RTV, its a proper gasket maker and all and will conform to the thickness's very well. I torqued the bolts to the required 15-20ft lbs. No leaks or faults in my cooling system at all.

Also, green pads are suitable for use on alloy. We use them all the time at work with no issues at all.

Ah ok. we buy the Wurth branded ones. I think they are german and we buy them by the 100. Red/Maroon is usually for iron/steel and Green for alloy surfaces.

I just discovered Wurth products from a guy whose brother just started selling them. Sure do like their penetrating oil. At $15 a can, it isn't cheap but sure does the job compared to other products I have. I'll have to ask if he sells these alloy flap disks.
ROST OFF + is what we use at work a lot! Its not cheep but it works wonders.
