HI Guys,
anyone got a suggested location to mount a UHF radio in my 2005 patrol?
I am looking at purchasing a Uniden GPS105. Anyone have some pics on their install would be a great help.
thanks
Geoff

mines in an overhead console, keeps the mic cord away from the gearstick.

i havent seen the dash in a 05 model, but i assume they have the double din radio. if yours doesnt have a cd player, swap it for an aftermarket single din cd player and put the uhf under it. if you put it on the top din, it will hang over the front of the cd player........

We have a centre roof consol in ours, with a TX 4400 GME mounted in it, with rear map lights so the kids can do what they want at night without annoying me when driving.
It also has a pocket on the passengers side for a little bit more storage.
i got no idea how to post pics but if you pm me your email i'll send you a couple of pics.
its a RONO consol made locally in QLD, fibreglass with grey carpet finish

i thought they use the middle interior light to mount too as well, so if you wanted a shorter one would n't you have to have a look at drilling into your roof somewhere well one of the supports...

I have thought of the roof console option, but the ones i have seen are full length back to the interior roof light. The problem i have is that i have a roof mounted DVD player there so the full roof console is not an option. Is there a smaller roof console that anyone knows of?
Our centre roof consol has a step at the back of it where the kids map lights are mounted, and
I was thinking of the DVD option as well and it would make a good spot to locate the monitor for this, i'll send you some pics asap.

not too sure on the 05 models... but i ended up getting a remote head gme for mine.... mounted the head at the bottom of the centre of the dash (up from the gear stick.... yea i had to put 2 small holes in the dash but the dash curves away and you can't see them anyway)
i placed the actual unit under the centre console just to the back of the gear stick (can just feel the corner of it through the gear stick cover) it fits in there nice and snug and cause of the gear stick hole the sound from the speaker is nice clear and plenty loud enough

i know it's not the uhf you intended on buying... just an idea to keep in your head.... looks really tidy

Now I feel really cheap!
I have mounted the UHF head with double sided tape to the removable drink holders in the console. The base unit is under the passenger seat. The microphone sits in one of the cup holders. The only obstacle is to get to my coins which I keep in the ashtray which is partly covered by the UHF head. I simply lift the removable cupholders up to access the ashtray. The wiring for the UHF is run out just under the handbrake.
Not a single hole drilled anywhere. Seems to work so far.

Hi Guys
Just thought I would contribute to this, I have a 2005 GUIV and I had the same problem where do I put my radio's as in my last 4X4 (Maverick) I had a full width overhead console and it made it simple but getting back to my new one I have installed them on a double bracket utilising the ash tray mounting in the console, by removing the ash tray it will leave a mounting bracket exposed and I fabricated two screw together brackets that utilised the ash tray mount.
The mic brackets are mounted on the side of the console utilising the existing console screw holes with a spacer and longer screws.
Therefore no holes needed to be drilled anywhere. My radio's are a Codan HF and a GME TX3400 both being remote head type radio's, with the main bodies and speakers of the radio's mounted on the cargo barrier.
As you can see in the photo the mic cables are out of the way and the drink holders are also left clear for the odd stubby or two.

Smileey, I had the exact same situation as you. DVD on the roof - no space for a console. I got the guys at OLBIS to fit my GME3200 next to the handbrake, in the blank panel. It looks good, and people comment about it all the time. I have sent you a pic to your bigpond address. Hope this helps. Chhers.

I've gone a similar path to MadDan in that I've got a remote head GME unit. The control head is screwed to the centre dash below the aircon/heater controls, where the console starts to slope forward. It makes seeing the sub tank and rear aircon controls difficult but I don't need to see them all that often.

The radio is in the centre console, beneath the lift out nick-knack bucket. It's screwed to the eft side of the cavity and the power and antenna cable pass through a small hole in the bottom.

I had the same radio installed in my GU II in a similar manner.

Be careful with the Uniden where you install it. I have a UH015SX that was initially installed into the dash, I removed the factory radio and installed a Alpine in the bottom and the Uniden in the top. If you have a manual the gear lever is quite long and the MIC connector will stick out and you will either hit the cable or connector when changing gears. The GME's have a flush mount type MIC connector that does't give you this issue.

As yours is full size and wider than mine you may not have this issue, but check it first. I tried finding a 90 degree connector to face the cable downwards but could not as the Unidens have an extra pin.
