To date in this area about $5g.and a bit
Headers, hi flow cats etc
Difference exhaust
Unichip
Dyno.

Need more air, so next improvement will be better intake of sorts. maybe even forced. Slow steps, wife will only allow me to spend so much.

cool stuff, shame I cant modify my exhaust in Qatar, large SUVs arent allowed to be louder than a certain amount. There are chances I can get my car impounded for even a cold air filter 😂😂😂.

my Patrols engine is the VK56DE
So, you have a Nissan Patrol SE. All the guys in Australia have LE Patrols with the Direct Injection Gasoline option and 400HP from the VK56VD engine.
The Y62 Patrol SE on the other hand uses the VK56DE and provides 320HP. There is no Direct Injection Gasoline option and going from my friend's experience, fuel consumption is always horrible. Eventually he sold it for this reason.

yea its a 320, but its the Platinum Edition with all the cool high end features (sensors, cameras and what not). I bought the car second hand, so its silly that the last owner spec'd the Patrol with every single feature but the 400 engine. and apparently it does have the VVEL DIG?

It certainly pulls harder than you'd think 320HP feels like. I've been in an SE before and mine pulls way stronger.

Hi Guys, this is my first post and i am seeking for a solution to my y62 2014 400 hp issues ( high fuel consumption, rpm drops with arough idle if engine is on for a while and rpm hesitation on revs )

My on board screen reads 4 to 5.2 L cruising below 2k rpm. But i have connected an A/f to check the reading

12.9 low rpm or iddle
10 Full throttle

Compared that to a new y62 400 hp

14.7 low rpm
13 full throttle

In fact my car has new plugs, air filter, coils, 4 exhaust sensors, reseted my ecu. Besides i have tested injectors , ecu maf sensor of a different vehicle, with no improvement. If you have encountered any of those issues and got it sorted please give me a hint.

Thanks

Hi @Sands I think @thorium already said it as a reply to @Sahan R , are the fuel consumptions figures you are talking about are from the car's computer? Have you gone back to basics and worked it out by manual calculation, fill fuel tank, drive till its close to empty, refill, calculate fuel used and kms driven? Its possible the cars computer is somehow wrongly calculating fuel usage.

ha, figures can be made to look like anything. and ever tuner shows figures differently. View attachment 524043
Joe, was this done by a fellow by the name of Brody?
I am considering taking my Patrol to him after seeing good results from another unit with the same mods here in Darwin.

My Y62 sits in the 15lt per 100km Range driving around the streets. Likely your cooler 62c thermostat is having an effect on the fuel map coolant temp correction.Seen it before on other efi V8's.
Might be worth checking this out.
A bloke I know has a S5 and was complaining of poor fuel economy and it was eventually diagnosed as the fan being on all the time. He reckons he could hear it. Like when you sit at the lights too long and the fan kicks in but it was doing it all the time.

Hiya! Mostly the 320 Owners put the VVEL/DIG Badge and everything. The 320/SE platinum does come with all view monitor but it does not have Adaptive Cruiser Control. Also We Used to have 2 320 Nissan out of which one was bonestock and other had Upgrades to the exhaust, headers, filters, Cams, Head and what not and apparently the Modified 320 Gave better economy than the stock ones. Also the only way to know if it is 400 or not is to see if it is 5 Speed or 7. Also the onboard computer usually never changes the fuel consumption. This seems to be the problem with the vehicles sold in the MEA. You need to reset it. go to the average time and fuel Average page then hold down the trip reset and then drive a couple of Km's and you should have you're answer. Also Please do not tune the 320, the only advantage you will have is Cutoff, you will face worse fuel economy

I have the vk56vd engine on a 2010 model the avg fuel consumption should be btw 4.0 and 5.0 combined (normal driving)
since you replaced your spark plugs and injectors you can try checking your coil packs. otherwise it might be a catalytic converter issue

I have a 320hp patrol vq56de, and I saw your youtube consumption video, your car definetly uses more petrol, mine keeps the star point @ 4.1 L / 100km. I use a synthetic oil which is rated for 15,000 km, I always check my tyre pressure, and I always change my engine air filter every two oil changes or 30,000 km. I mostly drive in city and not highways. Also note that spark plugs should be changed at 160,000 km, gearbox oil every 40,000km is recommended but not required.( lifetime gearbox oil claim does not apply to middle east hot weather.)

Hey Guys,

So recently, ive been looking at my fuel money spending and I realized something is off about my Y62's fuel economy.

Luckily, petrol here in Qatar is very cheap at just QAR 1.25 per litre (AUD 0.47) of 95 octane.

I noticed that my Y62 was only achieving about 2.5 KM/Litre (40Litre/100KM) which seems really bad.

Is this about right for the fuel economy of a 2016 Y62 Patrol?

Id like to know your thoughts and your fuel economy...
Did you manage to get a fix for this? I'm in Qatar toom have a 2015 Patrol Platinum. Getting 2.5km/l too. Had coolant system checked and replaced hoses etc. New spark plugs etc.

No idea why it's consuming so much fuel.

hey man, if you have the 320 engine - then this is the average consumption. A friend of mine has a very clean example with 25k km since 2015 and its the same fuel consumption. During city driving, I get around 350 to 400km per tank. But if its pure highway driving, I've seen close to 550-600km for full tank. If you worry about fuel spendage, I would sell the 320 and look for a clean example of the 400 version. This has the variable valve event lift so its much more fuel efficient.

OK so it's normal. Wow. I sold my 2014 Cayenne GTS and I'd get 450km out of that, and that's with me enjoying myself in sports mode from time to time. Wife would get 600km.

I've been told by a number of mechanics to steer clear of the 400hp versions because of various issues apparently. They're not easy to find either out here.

I guess it's time to be lighter on the pedals.

Also, your friend has a 2015 model with 25k km! That's crazy low!

Thanks for the reply brother. Appreciate it.

I have the 320. Fuel economy is awful. But fuel is cheap out here…so I tend not to fret. It’s worth it as it’s an awesome machine-especially after some Ironman mods. Toying with exhaust grade but think my wife would kill me!
