Hello, has anyone had any experience fitting xr6 front seats to a GU patrol wagon? I like the comfort of the xr6 seat and I was hoping to fit a set to help with back pain. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I can see it's not a simple task. Thank you in advance.

Yeah saw that too but no-ones really covered the detail and I'm a bit time poor to start from scratch at the moment so be nice to see working options as my old worn out factory seat is killing me.

In a nutshell.

Unbolt mounts off ford seat, cut them up, you only need the inside ford rail.

Most seats have electric motors for height adjustment, I fully lowered them before I pulled off the loom, they don't do anything now. I lifted up the rear motor about 6mm as I found out afterwards it free's up the rail a lot and helps the seat slide better.

Because you using the patrol outer rail that has the slide / locking mechanism for moving seat back and forward. On the inside ford rail you need to fold up the locking slide and pin it with a little M5 bolt or it will stop you from moving the seat.

The ford rail then bolts straight into factory holes, back hole is about 15mm out, you can just bend the foot back a bit to line it up, I cut and little notch out to make it easier and tack welded it up later.

Use patrol outer rail (close to door) I made a spacer with 40mm RHS and some angle. The seat bolts straight onto this. You can just seat the seat on there and mark out the holes to be drilled.

With the buckle I used the patrol stork, I drilled out the hole to 16mm and its bolts straight into the side of the ford seat where the original one was, I put an M16 spring washer on there to keep it tight.

I used FG ute seats but all BA BF FG mounts are the same. The ute seats have the quick release fold forward lever and I'm not 100% sure if the sedans have that as well.

Yeah thanks Jamie. No the sedan seats don't have the flip lever. Mine were supposed to be ute seats but there is no lever to be seen. I think it was a creative ebay ad. They seats were in a ute (holden) but as it turns out not Ford ute.

Dragging up an old thread here but can anyone tell me if the Ford seats are an upgrade comfort wise? I've just spent several long days in the gu seats and my tailbone is killing me.
Also, is there much difference between the xr and G6 seats?
Cheers.

No one would be putting them in if they weren't more comfortable.

Not sure if anyone has bothered with G series seats as they eould be a lot dearer and hard to find but i doubt ford gave a different floor pan so they should.

Get the seats from wrecker, Gumtree etc. I have the Huracan mounts and heaps of clearance. More than Nissan seats as they sit a bit higher.

The new Hurricane kit doesn't use any Ford parts, so no electrics to worry about. Seat height is about the same. You need to find Ford ute seats if you have a ute, the tilt function is a must. I got the adapters when they had a special on. Also regarding engineering them, it costs around $400 to do this in Victoria.

The electrics are just for the base tilt and the lumbar support. You only need power to one plug, pos and neg easy. If you want, like I did is just add temp power to set seat into your preferred position (cause I haven't got around to all my wiring). There is no real electronics as such just electric motors so no real issue having them permanently powered. If you didn't want power you could cut the bases up and cut and shut with the Nissan frames as Jamie4800 did but then you lose the adjustability which is why I wanted them. Especially the base tilt. And i think if you want them engineered you have a good chance with the Hurracan frames compared to a cut and shut DIY, although I haven't chased getting mine approved yet. If and when I get a GVM upgrade I'll look at doing it then so I only have one mod plate in the engine bay.

I have a ute too. The ford ute seats have the fold forward lever.

The only drawback that I have is that being a "festively plump" build I find the seat to steering wheel relationship a bit tight for getting in and out when the base is tilted to my preferred seating position. I was tossing up selling them and the frames and going back but the seating position is far and away more comfortable than the ST Nissan seats and visibilty is good. I'm just going to have to play around with the tilt and distance from the wheel and maybe lose a couple of KG. I don't think I've been so comfortable in a car seat for ages.

Couple of things to be wary of.

I recall a couple of people talking about the Autotechnica seats which are often on ebay and offer from memory a nissan adaptor or easy universal mounting. They were considered of average quality and comfort. I'm not sure what or whose the the ones you picture are but if they are cheap generic like the Autotechnica they may be a let down.

They also look wide. Be very careful here as the ford seats only just fit. If the Ford seat was 20mm wider it would not be a good fit, they are that close. The seat belt receiver just misses the centre console and it is a tight squeeze to use the flip mechanism. This is not an issue as such with the ford seat, it all works, but if that seat pictured is any wider then i think you will have problems getting it to fit right. Then can you get mounts or make mounts.

I was going to make mounts, I'm a sheetie, but the Hurracan ones are so good and easy I couldn't be bothered.

What are they worth. You can easily get cloth XR seats for about $250 a pair. Mine are XR8 the same as pictured in Jamie's post.

Thanks again . They from incharge automotive and come complete with mounting brackets the fella on the phone said he sells about 4 to 5 pairs a week to patrol owners ?? Take that as you will . The price 1699 for the pair that's every thing included just have to bolt in. I live 3 hours from the factory which makes it hard to go see them in the flesh . Same with xr seats I've never sat in them either in a patrol . Iam chasing comfort more than looks . As it's A tourer .

Never seen or heard of those seats or ever seen anyone mention them on this forum. Make of that what you will. Lot of money at 3 times the price of a set of Ford seats. would hope they come with some sort of approval for that money.

Was looking at the incharge seats myself as my boss just put some in his 79 dual cab and I wanted a drivers seat for my patrol, they are well made, not as comfy as say a VZ SS leather seat like in my commy, they are ford GTP seats re-upholstered. To sit in.... meh. Im a pretty skinny fella and didn't feel very snug in the seat itself. I'd really have to go for a drive to see what they are like on the highway, don't know if its worth putting one in over the ST ute seats. Not slagging thier products just my experiance, he seems like a nice bloke when I spoke to him and he was going to do a single seat for $1160 delivered to Townsville depot.
