Around town I'm getting about 650 Kms from a tank for my GUIV auto 3L which is not wonderful but possibly expected for a vehicle of this weight. It doesn't bother me but when I travel west in 3 months time I want to be able to calculate how far I can get on the combo of main and sub tank at cruising speed. Part of my journey will include the Donohue/Plenty and also the GCR and the rest is bitumen. What sort of fuel consumption figures am I looking at once my truck is up to speed and traveling the great open spaces?

hey mate
650 around town is awsome out of a tank. I have a 06 duel cab auto with 40000kms, a roof rack and 265/75/R16 cooper ST's and have never ever got better than 13lt to the hundered on the open rd. I'm running about 12 psi boost at 110 with my dawes and needle. hope you get better than me. LOL

on flat free way @110k/h, i get about 10.2 l/100 with boost around 7-8 psi. egt at about 390 in last trip ( 3 people on board, light load). towing a 1 T camper, at 100k/h, i get about 13.5l/100 boost at about 9 psi, egt 420

hey patrol97
how do your make your boost settings stay so low with the ecu boost control. even before i fitted the dawes and needle my boost was 10+ on flat rds unlaiden. just seems a big differencebetween the two cars and reflects on fuel consumption

hey guys i just got back from a trip from Adelaide to Brisbane via Bourke (dirt) and home again via Sydney, Canberra, Geelong Great ocean Rd. I have a 2003 zd30 auto, dawes valve set at 10psi needle valve, 3" scotts rods, 285/75/16 MTR's, roof rack (wasnt loaded), steel bar, winch, side bars, draws, loaded for two people and towing a 1ton camper. Averaged 16.6l/100km's and it went as high as 20l/100km's on the dirt.

Mate your dawes valve set to 10psi is far to low. Your peak boost should be up around the 15 16psi mark.

On a light highway run not that loaded i can get into the low 10's.
Loaded to the hilt and towing dinghy about 14 to 15 depending on conditions and how much of a hurry im in.

I've found about 8psi at 100kmph to be pretty good for power V fuel econ. EGT 350ish

I just came back from a 3000+ km drive from rAdelaide up to Sydney, down the coast to Melbourne and back to Adelaide.

I have an 01 ZD30, Dawes and Needle, 2 3/4" high flow exhaust, EGR mod etc etc. I averaged 10 to 11 L/100 which was pretty good as i had 4 people in the car, fridge and all the crap. My boost is set to 15psi, and it will sit there if i am accelerating more than about 10% tps, at 100kph the EGT is 280-350.

Probably uses a tad more around town, but it depends how im driving or what im carrying.. Strong head winds dont help either :)

mud rat and dronus4x4 are you guys using needle valves to control your spool rate? Mines an auto too by the way.

Howdy, yes I'm using the needle valve to control when my boost comes on and its spool up rate. I also have had my VNT screw adjusted by the magician himself (Chaz) to help it run well.

I got pulled up in strath the other day by some lads asking about the spool up/down sound my patrol makes when I accelerate and then back off the throttle. Apparently its quite loud... :)

I haven't adjusted my vnt screw at all will this make any difference. sorry for hijacking this thread to talk about our stuff. hopefully it helps others aswell.

Mud Rat

Dont adjust your VNT screw yet. Adjust your Dawes to max out at 15 to 16 psi. If you find you cant get over 10 or 12 then you might have to pull you dawes apart and give the spring inside a gentle stretch. I had to do this when mine was new.

Once you get this sort get back too me and we can see where your at. Maybe via PM dont want to hijack the thread.
