Hey Phil,
Easy as, you also need to drill the inner part of the console, when you remove the back half you will see the inner, I drilled it out so the lighters pass thru it...Paul

PS- remove the screws top & bottom and the outer comes off

 

There's a couple of screws down at floor level on the sides (just near the inner rear seat supports for the front seats) as well as 2 screws in the centre of the rear section near the ash tray (from memory).

I've modified my centre console heaps! I totally removed that rear cover and have cut out the deep black plastic "tub".....just leaving the short, inner, removable tub. Now my kids have a bit more leg room and I can get easy access to the back side of the switches (next to the passenger's seat belt buckle).
