I have just purchased a gq tb42e patrol wagon. It is straight petrol. Has run gas most of its life. Gas has been removed. It has a 2.5 inch exhaust straight through with 33 inch tyers. It is currently using 21L/100km. Is this normally for the set up I am running. There is a slight fuel smell when I am driving. Any ideas on what this may be. The tank and fuel lines do not seem to b leaking. I have just replaced the O2 sensor as it was using 40L/100km and the fuel smell was unbearable. So the O2 sensor has improved but still a light smell of fuel. any input would be great.

20-30l/100 is about normal for a petrol gq. your fuel smell could be anything but i say. pull the injectors out and give em a service as they probably have been serviced. and see how that goes.

There's a chance that it could be the o-ring on the fuel sender unit. I replaced the sender but not the o-ring a couple of months ago and noticed a terrible fuel smell all the time. After getting around to buying and changing the o-ring the fuel smell disappeared straight away. It's a cheap and easy job if that's all it is.

Mine has leaked from the fuel line that goes between the filter and the injector rail. It gets quite hot there so you don't really see it leaking that much especially once warmed up. I found the leak one morning when it was cold. Just had the bonnet up and turned the key to hear the pump prime before starting and could see the leak.
20/100 is good. I have got mine down to 17/100 on a trip.

I had the fuel filler and breather line go hard and perish off the tank , replaced them and all is good
Petrol fuel usage i have not monitoered as i mostly use petrol when 4wding but consumption is high when 4wding

same...except

I get the same too except Trol is now on 33's AT's and with roof bars, 2" lift and EFI
used to get 16's when it was stock.

Maybe the title should be changed to TB42E Fuel Guzzling...

I can't see anything in this thread that would justify the use of the word economy! ;)

By the way, i get approx 10.5-11l/100km out of the TD42 highway, maybe a bit more (12l/100km) in town...

oh and on gas she averages 23l/100

stic,
yeh it is abit of an oxymoron but cost wise when I run on it gas it's equivalent to diesel
I've done the maths and I'm at peace with the trol's high fuel consumption.
