Well today I turned into a new shopping center and shock. It was the old straight into the underground carpark. Now my car had never been in one in the 10 years I have owned it as with the tyre on the roof its a bit iffy.

My last experience with an undercover carpark resulted in ay least 10 broken fluro tubes at noosa 20 years ago.

So you can imagine my panic when I saw this tunnel ahead and no way out. Well I caused chaos hitting the brakes and turning straight up the footpath and up the wrong way up the street to make a quick exit to avoid smashing any more fluros .

Any way I went around the back to look for normal outdoor parking and there wasn't any. so I had a look at the backdoor entrance and noticed it said clearance 2.3 well that was. .1 above normal so I gave it crack and who would of thought I have broken my old undercover carpark phobia. :)

Thought I would share my big achievement with you guys

I saw a foorby take out an entire row of sprinkler heads at Capalaba Park shopping centre. Was funny as hell. Water everywhere. Ofcause this also set off the fire alarms so the fireies had to attend.

My GU's antenna scrapes on parts of the roof at work so I have about 50mm clearance in there. Almost drove in there with the roof racks on last week. Only realised it as the roller door was going up.

I used to be able to park in them but now I can't. I hit the 2.4 or 2.5 signs at maccas.. Must be bloody close to their lights.. Have to sort of go in on an odd Angle. Rooftop tent doesn't help.

Haha
I pulled into Claremont Quarter the other day, had 10cm clearance roughly, except for the 2-way antenna which was damn near folded in half, clanging and clunking off the overhead pipes and lights
Got a few funny looks

Wait Mic drove under something and ****ed the roof?

Someone please link me to thread and/or pics

I **** myself with the roof top tent on - a few times the missus has had to remind me.

Ahh, I got a truck stuck under a bridge outside of Aberdeen Scotland when moving house in the late 70's.

Had to let the tires down to back out, unfortunately this had not been accomplished before the local plod turned up to laugh at my sorry ass.

The truck rental mob gave me a hefty damage bill as well. Company was called hire a jaloppy, or something like that, and there was no insurance.

Expensive lesson. :headwall:

I have A sticker reminding me of my height at the top of my windscreen, it changes when ever I make a height change to the vehicle.

its 1980mm with the roof bars and empty tanks and cargo.

Got caught at the gold coast a few weeks ago, had no where to go but and undercover car park Max 2m must have measured right didnt hit the roof bars.
only thing is my uhf antend drew a line from the entery right to the exit.

Ahh pain in the arse this is indeed!

I can just squeeze under a 2.2m if I remove my antenna and highlift. The worst is when you see all these sedan's taking up all the open air spaces and you have no choice to squeeze under somewhere.

I drove out an exit once where the height restriction bar was on the piss, left a nice big scratch all the way down my roof.

On a similar topic I reversed under my carport out the front of my house today, forgot to remove my fibreglass antenna.........it got hooked somewhere and got a custom chop! ahhhhhhh..... haha

we have height restriction on an open air car park even on the exit???? it makes me laugh every time, im assuming they dont want trucks going in the entry and exit dunno why its just like any other entry to a car park and trucks still enter from the other end?

It's due to weight of the vehicle. If it's over, for example, 2.7m then it must be heavy. Thou shalt not pass. Usually find that on multi level carparks etc. Actual height doesn't matter.

I had a funny experience like that years ago with an SES troopy fitted with a fairly large old style HF aerial. I drove into a service station without thinking much about how high the aerial was. It 'snowed' bits of broken flouro. The service station attendant wasnt too worried which was a relief.

My old troopy had a pair of aerials on the front bar that accurately told me whether I'd fit under car parks. They were great ! If I ever put a roof rack on my Patrol I'll be putting an aerial cut to the right height to avoid any embarrassing incicidents.

Because I have a steep driveway that levels of into the garage I had a strange situation where if I had my roof rack on I could only drive forwards into the garage. If I reversed up the rack would hit the roller door. Forgot about it one day and almost distroyed my roller door, luckily just damaged the rubber seal.

I nearly got caught in QLD big time. I was blindly following my GPS heading into Broadbeach.
It told me to turn left at intersection, so I did. The intersrction I turned at was about 50 metres before the one I should have turned at and it was the entrance to a carpark. Wouldnt have been a problem if I hadn't had my caravan on.
Fortunately there was a small area just big enough to do some kerb hopping and get back out. Could have been a bit embarrasing.

Back when I was in the army I was driving the ambulance on exersize out bush and had antennas fitted to the bullbar which we normally didn't have, had a bloke with a snake bite so they called the westpac rescue helicopter in. I had to go pick him up and deliver to the airfield. After a quick brief from the pilot saying I had to reverse up the helicopter I drove up did a u turn and reversed back. Lol all of a sudden there was a lot of yelling and screaming and abuse. Turns out he was trying to get my attention as the antennas had just missed the rotating blades as I did the u turn and then when I reversed the antennas were just out of the rotating radius. If the blades weren't turning I would have hit them as when there turning they aren't "flopping" down. There made out of carbon fibre or something worth $10k each (4 of them) and would have put the helicopter out of action for a week or so while everything was checked.
