Thats where I would put my money. I have the same set with bigger batteries buit for home the 1.5AH would be fine. You'll wonder how you ever did without an impact driver once you get one. No more stripped screw heads.

 

I use Milwalkee and would highly recommend. The batteries and charger are a little pricy but once you have them the skins are pretty cheap. I have the rattle gun, drill, grinder and hacksall, all very good quality and very torquey.

x2. Think I will start expanding my Milwaukee range based on how much I like the drill.

 

Milwaukee are good but expensive, I've got Ryobi at home. From experience keep away from anything Ozito, Black and Decker and the current DeWalts are sht quality as they have been bought out by Black and Decker

Makita, Ryobi or Bosch for home stuff.

Ozito is good "at a pinch", but cannot be expected to last.

About 360 bucks maybe? 18v Impact driver, and a hammer drill / driver, and two 3 amp hour batteries. They go pretty hard.

Best part is the ability to use the same batteries with multiple tools. I brought a grinder, skin only for about 100 bucks

 

AEG mate, best ive ever used and bought. Bunnings has them.

 

I use the Bosch cordless impact driver every day. Awesome bit of kit. The batteries last a long time and the kit comes with 2 batteries and a fast charger. It is nimble enough to do up 1mm screws and is powerfull enough to remove the toughest nuts. (Within reason) - Also from Bunnings.

 

Cordless impact drivers are the ducks nuts. I brought a 10.8V Bosch kit a while back with one in it and thought it would be useless. Boy, was I wrong! It's the tool I use the most.

Pretty much the 4 I would suggest. For home use I'd go the Bosch gear.

 

Another vote for Bosch, have a corded drill that's lasted 22 years and still has no play in the chuck, and at work we have a Bosch cordless, and a cordless impact driver, dropped it a few times, dropped a battery from a 6-7' ladder, still all good.

For home that will be great. Shop around though Milwaukee have just released there brushless motor range and the old models are dirt cheap at the moment (the one you linked is the old model). The one you linked only has 1.5aH batteries, just means you need to charge more often but you will getnheaps of use out of it.

 

I bought a hitachi drill as it was $200 cheaper than the same spec makita, can't fault and I pefer it as they have a full metal chuck.

 

Totally agree. Had my hitachi 18v lithium battery drill since 2009 and still use it everyday. Still perfect

 

the other catch with the 1.5 ah batteries is they wont actually fit alot of the other skins avalible. ie my sds hammer drill, sabre saw and 1/2" impact gun will all only accept the 3ah batteries.

just something to consider if you ever want to add more skins to your set

 

I've had my Ryobi 18v gear for years. Never had a problem. Home use, but plenty of it......

 

Bosch for me.

I've relied on them for years.

Panasonic kick arse. Had them for install work and the batteries last a very very long time. I dropped a drill about 5m and not a scratch. Batteries charge fast and there is a crap load of power.

 

Metabo, Bosch, Dewalt anything 18V, Whats wrong with Dewalt ?, mines maybe 5 years old and I swear buy it and the 18V impact, battery life is great, never had a drama.

 

In the last few years DeWalt quality has just fallen, but prices stay the same. Just not worth it at all.

 

Ryobi here. Drill, grinder and impact driver. Impact driver came with a socket to put in Phillips bits ect. Good for adjusting door strikers and the like.

Grinder chews some juice but you expect that

 

easy, milwaukee. anything else is a toy. yes, they cos a bit. but they are the best. also owned by aeg, so either one is fine. from my understanding, all the m18 range works with all m18 tools. skins alone arn't to bad, batteries are a killer. heaps of balls, and good life. great waranty (first hand experiance here, turns out that u shouldnt slap on a set of welding gloves aswell as leather when you cant hold the drill due to heat). deffo get the impact driver. it will be your most used tool. also, for 4wd use, get the HT rattle gun. heaps on grunt for wheel nuts etc... i used to use my impact driver for wheels, but it was only just ballsy enough.

I'm a sparky and I use a Makita kit with 3ah batterys. They take a pounding and last all day.
Biggest problem I find with impact drivers is finding screwdriver bits that last.
Stay away from Ryobi, I had a kit for home use and it karked it after just over a year with minimal use.

 

I brought a makita impact bit set, absolute piece of **** I have a Milwaukee impact bit set too, heaps better.

Most companies being the newer brushless technology onto the market, marginally more expensive, definitely worth it. Apparently resist the dust and crap a lot better, which is usually what kills em.

 

"circular saw (perfect for firewood)", your not serious ? kindling maybe , going off topic stihl 046 good size saw, much better for fire wood.

 

IMO 18v dewalt is the go, have been using it for about 10 yrs. i'm a sparky and my drills have been dropped off 6ft ladders without any damage at all. they pretty much get used all day everyday and never give me a problem even on the racecar.
the new range is out now too

Milwaukee are the best but you will pay for them. However I have used my father in laws m18 impact driver and it was shlt house compared to my 18v dewalt. Didn't have near the torque. I have got dewalt 18v kit. Drill, impact driver, right angle drill, angle grinder, torch, sabre saw, circular saw, wet/dry vac and 1/2in rattle gun. Had them all for about 6 years and the only thing I have replaced are battery's and the trigger on the drill as I burnt it out putting 60mm holesaw through hardwood decks. What ever you get make sure you can get a rattle gun too. It is priceless when out in the bush. I use it to change tyres and it has more torque than my super cheap air rattle gun.
