Y61 Manual Transmission! Are tb48 same as tb42?

Hi there,

Trying to find a tb48 manual transmission and after looking for part numbers (FS5R50B) it seems as though the same transmission is shared between other models such as the tb42, tb45, zd30 and td42.

Would it be safe to assume that the only difference externally is the bellhousing ?

From what limited info I have the only internal differences are the ratios of the box.

Would using a tb42 box with a tb48 bellhousing make it the same as a factory tb48 transmission or are there other internal differences between the transmission that set them apart?

Actually, a GQ TB42 or GU TB45 bellhousing bolts up to a TB48. You just need to use the 42/45 flywheel and remove the spacing on the starter motor.

The boxes themselves are slightly different, different ratios, different shifter position. But it can be made to work.

Hi, I'm using a Toyota 2UZ engine with a TD42 transmission with the original TD42 clutch kit, but I've had problems because it doesn't last very long and the clutch is easily damaged. Would the TB48 500hp kit work without problems? Or do I have to modify it?
