Has anyone fitted one of these? Are they any good, or are they the ultimate gramps icon?

Do they block much, or just block normal vision??

I think they're good but most people have gone away from them becasue of the increase in noise and drag. If you spent all day pottering around in the bush at low speed and only the occasional high way trip they'd be good. If you spent most of your time on the highway and only a little time pottering around in the bush you just have to wear the increases in noise and fuel consumption.

I've never seen one fitted to a Patrol though. Is that becasue they wont fit ?

2 points:

1. They'd be a great place to mount 5 orange marker/clearance lights so you look like a prime mover at night :D Ya know the ones I mean:

O OOO O

2. Any additional wind noise on my truck would be of no consequence; I can't hear jack-chit anyway...... the 35" MTZ + the Chev 6.5 soon see to THAT!!!

My grandfather had a solid one on his xg falcon ute .. It didn't move around and kept the sun off the top of your legs on long days on the hwy but was a real pain going down steep hills as thats where us tall people look through.
The patrol doesn't really need one as the screen is more vertical anyway..

cheers utemad

If this doesn't conjure up an image that spells "STAY AWAY" ,.... then i'm afraid you are too far gone mate....

hahahaha

Please don't ask us were to get those side window shield things too , remember those , yes, just like grampa used to have! hahaha

just teasing ya dude!:D

Ps: i suppose it could gain some credibility if it doubled for a braai (BBQ) grid out on trails.....

Every second Sunbird and Torana has them.
learnt something on the weekend, that Holden made a camper for the rear of the sunbird! open the hatch, and it mounted off there.. down to the ground and round.. really kewl lookin thing for its day! I'd never seen one before.

I have fitted one to my ST30....one of the best things I have ever done to it;)
The Air con works heaps better....and it keeps the hottest part of the day sun off backs of hands and legs.
There is no more noise than what has already been created with MR Nissans built in body choruses:D
Cost $175 from Highway Sunvisors in Lidcombe in Sydney for a solid one ...and about $35 to get it painted same colour as truck (they come already undercoated)
I also fitted a full width dust deflector to the roof at back...and it does its job far better than I expected...not as much dust entry from opening doors now
I cannot find the contact details for Highway Sunvisors...but Google them and it should come up.
Also Keeps SWMBO happy as she is not getting sunburnt as much on long trips....n that has gotta be good:D :D

Cheers Keith

It was called a Hatch Hutch and was available as a genuine part from Holden for Torana and Sunbird LH-LX hatchbacks. Was cool.

There is 2 sizes...the largest one fits....and they are a universal fitting...dead easy to fit ....just gotta drill some holes in roof , which I wasnt keen on ....but it all worked out well in the end.

Cheers Keith

The Nissan wind deflectors don't require drilling. There a gutter mounts on both sides, and the top is secured by double sided tape.

From memory, the Nissan dealers sell these for under $100.00

I find the deflectors to work well for both dust and rain.

Old guy up the road from me has a factory job on his 08-GU-ST 3lt. When for a drive with him to check to see if anyone was catching fish and I was a lot quieter that the one I had on my 80 series. He is not happy though as I has started making rust in the gutter, he has had it back to Pissan in Mandurah and they laid to the old dodge on him and said it was because he had not cleaned the track dust / dirt / grime properly.

Which is pretty good, seeing as he goes from his house to the shop to the bowling club and back, and has never been near the dirt. The one I had on the 80 was worth it early morning and late arvo, even with the noise and drag, which is even not worth mentioning when you have racks and gear, bloody great rear view mirrors, roo bars, spotties and an elbow all hanging on the outside of the 4by in my opinion.
