search, I think some are bigger.
definitely some done even have nuts. they have those ring and plate things with the philips screws that strip.

No, it's 53. A 54 or 55 would work but if you want the correct size, it's 53.

the shorty is a 1988 but im still not sure is it a 53 or 54 mil nut?

I got a 54 off ebay and it works fine. A nut that big with 1 or 2 mm diff is no biggy, much better than rounding all the corners off with a chisel like the previous owner of my truck did.

They are 53 mm, I also Have a 54mm socet becuase thats all i could find and it works fine.

the round nut with the 2 locking screws is from 97 onwards

 

The round nut that people are referring to is a much better system of securing your hub and will fit straight on, at little cost. You can also buy the tool to do it up with, though I made up one myself fairly easily.

 

I bought one but found it useless until the nuts where partly undone (using hammer and screw driver) as the socket was to big to get in far enough to get any purchase on the nut..

 

Yes, the inside of the hub is tapered towards the centre. I had to machine a taper onto the outside of the socket so it would fit in.

 

I bought a 54mm socket from ebay, and it was very sloppy. I would suggest getting some calipers on your nut and measuring it.

i have a 1990 Gq andI got 54mm it doesn’t fit inside the housing I’d say 52mm as I measured it with callipers and it’s 52.07mm so he might since they are the older models have a harder time with a 54mm as I am currently .. I’m going to go buy a 52mm even tho every bit of info I can find does indeed say 54 but I can’t get mine off with a 54 it’s too large .. to be on the safe side I’d say he should get a 53 cause it’s the outer ring on the tool that will stuff you up as it won’t fit within the wheel hub..

 

I’m trying to take mine off currently as well and I know all the information I can find says 54mm but I bought one and it doesn’t fit ..
I put callipers on the nut and it measured 52mm well the exact measurements were 52.07mm so 52mm 💁‍♂️
I’d say go a 53mm but the issue with going larger than exact is depending on build quality of the tool it might not fit within the wheel hub confines ..
like I bought mine at a repco so it should be fine but it doesn’t fit and I’m thinking next time I’m just going to buy a 52mm and a 53mm since I don’t want to waste another trip out to the wreckers just to come back empty handed 💁‍♂️

edit I have a 1990 Gq so it’s possible that the earlier models had a slightly different size
