one thing that does bring to my attention is the use of post turbo egt gauges and how inaccurate it can be. i mean with a less efficent turbo a 600 degree post turbo reading could be as high as 800 or more. surely this kind of tempreture couldnt be good.
i guess it also shows how bad the .64 rear housing is on a 2860 garrett. i mean its good for quick on the spot power but prolonged running cannot be good.
do you have any data from running a gt2860 with a .86 rear housing preferably running a gq pump and a td42t pump?
also any reason why you didnt keep going with the data on the switzer turbo or is it just that bad it isnt funny?
Funny you should mention that as when i fitted the 2860 i noticed that immediately i was seeing around 100 degrees less on my post turbo EGT's and i thought Hmmmmmmm.

So as you also have noticed DO NOT rely on post turbo figures when doing ANY testing of this sorts. No data for the .86 but i can tell you i did have a .86 on for a while and it did show around 70 degrees higher in post EGT's but i didnt test it as i wasn't happy with the overall driveability. Haven't seen any situations with the 2860 and a N/A pump as yet. As for the TD42T in my experience all results would be slightly better in boost response and torque curves.

The switzer thing is really pointless when the boost and corresponding torque curves are junk!!!!

Will be interesting to see what the JPC special (GT28?? machined etc) does compared to the 2860 with .64 rear on my truck.... hopefully it goes on very soon :) I'll get what info i can, but info cost $$ unfortunately when you don't have access to your own dyno.... I might be at the 4be show on the weekend, I'll come say hi if I am :)

Still on Turbos, what about the 3ltr VNT, any temp comparisons before and after turbo with a std exhaust & aftermarket ones? A new thread maybe for the 3ltr boys? Please.....

Paul

I will put that on my list mate, next time i do an exhaust i will test it for ya's.

How do the GU td42t turbos compare to the td42ti turbos? Are they the same, worse, better? Just curious.

I have a high-flowed (larger turbine) td42t factory turbo, thats now had a front mount intercooler added. What boost would you recommend to be the sweet spot for power and longevity. Of course will be matched with a tune. Its still on stock boost.

I tried a GT2860 with .86 on my GUIV and it was a little too laggy for a heavy car and with the extra compressor end size on the 71 or 76 you just lose some important driveability. When used with a N/A style or TD42T pump they may be ok but for the lasier TD42Ti pump i dont suggest them for everyday use.
Ok cool.

Does the TDi pump's electronic side affect its fuel delivery rate, smaller plunger or something else?

Most of it is timing related but there are some load sensing fueling related things that aren't too special about them

Same turbo mate as far as specs go, depending on what was done to it as to whether its had compressor end mods or just turbine would determine what its good for.

Compressor end mods on the HT18 aren't cool.

Nah mate, just turbine mods. Would it be worth going to 15psi on it?

Does the turbine mods make much of a difference in expected torque/power compared to factory? I would ideally like 130-140rwhp if its not going to be too much for it.

Cheers.

I dont like to see them go much over 13-14 pound mate, you have a good intercooler by the sounds of it. It should make 130-140 rwhp easy mate thats only 100Rwkw.

What tyres are you running???

Thanks for sharing that Toughdiesels, very interesting. I'm running one of your stage 3 TD05s at 20 psi. It'd be interesting to see what it's doing at full noise. Makes me want to go buy a datalogger.

Holy crap! How hard do they rev at just over a hundred clicks! I know thats not the point of this thread.. But woah!

Ditto that bruza.
How do your fiddled td05s compare to a standard off the shelf one go. Much difference?
Depends on what fiddled one your after, if its the STD off the shelf 16G then once modded they spool around 300 Rpm sooner and combined with tuning are a VERY good match for the midragne TD42 and of course you want bigger ,i can do that as well.
