Very interesting and so true, we are becoming a Nanny Country

#3 ·
We cant be too nannyised yet. They allow the sale of that "weed" alternative to marjiuana and it does get you stoned apparently.

#4 ·
I do believe in stopping smoking. I just don't understand how blank packaging could possibly help...

#9 ·
Wait for it soon we will getting told when to eat and when to *****.And if we get it wrong they will fine us.

It basically reflects the entire approach of the Labor government: seeming, rather than doing; that is, appearing to do something to address problems, but not actually achieving anything. Move on, there's another issue to address.

Cheers

Liked the 'Trojan Horse' allusion. Very true. **** today...everything else tomorrow.

The people no longer have the power. The Government does...with all their do-gooders and social engineers after their own agendas. Led by creatures like Gillard.

We are going have to ignore them and do our own thing...just like the pioneers did.

Bah, just another rubbish sprouted from a pen pusher. We should be laughing at some other countries stupidities:

In France...

An ashtray is considered to be a deadly weapon."

It is illegal to take photos of police officers or police vehicles, even if they are just in the background.

In Germany...

It is illegal for ones car to run out of gas on the Autobahn.

A pillow can be considered a "passive" weapon.

In Japan...

The importing of photographs showing male genitals is against the law.

In Mexico...

To maintain complete control of their bicycles, cyclists are prohibited from lifting even one foot from the peddles.

In Italy...

A new law (reported in The Guardian newspaper April 2005) in Turin imposes a fine of 500 Euros for dog owners who fail to walk their dogs at least three times a day.

In Korea...

All dogs sold for consumption must have a government approved tattoo.

The eating of stray cats is not permitted.

In Saudi Arabia...

Being poor is against the law. Any man not earning a "reasonable" income can be imprisoned.

In Singapore...

Cigarettes are illegal at all public places.

It is illegal to walk around in your own house naked.

This one really takes the cake:

In the United Kingdom...

It is illegal to be drunk on Licensed Premises (such as a pub or bar).

That ad has been on tv up here, funny as F***

#19 ·
why does that matter? Alcohol cause's cancer now too,so does that mean that everyone who drinks should'nt be on medicare.

#18 ·
I've given up smoking so I don't care what they do to the packs.
If other people don't like it. Tough. They can give up too.
If people want to continue smoking then they realy want the smoke and don't realy care what the packaging is unless its menthol.

#21 ·
ahh what the heck, so what if it upsets the tobacco companies big fat hairy deal. like skegbudley i quit and so can any smoker, it's a fricken stupid habit anyway. look at the realities you are paying some company 2 to 6 thousand dollars a year to poison yourself. booze is not dissimilar however at least it's more socially acceptable and in moderation less likely to cause you physical harm.

#22 ·
sold!

just a thought if you know what you smoke then all they have to do is name the packets light blue, blue, red, gold, et al

and the bloke behind the counter should be able to tell what it is. i hope they do change the packs so i can get cheap smokes :)

Forget smoking. I'm not sure the smoking subject was the aim of the article, just the fact we are becoming a nanny state controlled by our Governments and bureaucrats, we bend over backwards so these groups can screw us from all angles and we don't say anything about it, hell they ride around on motorcycles here without helmets (and that is something I would not do) but, rightly or wrongly, Americans hang on to their hard fought freedoms aggressively, unlike us who will blindly accept a governments decree.

That is why it is so important this carbon tax goes to a vote, if 51% of the population say yes, then I will, and have no other choice, but go along with it, BUT, a minority government with a few miserable independents do not have the right to blindly shove this down our throats without a whimper.

That is what the article described about us and how our culture is now defined as a bunch of children who need to be guided by the "Nanny State".

Great article and this metaphorical paragraph sealed it, when there are existing laws which cover most items, our agencies are just too lazy to see that:

"The fact that adults enjoy these drinks seems to matter less than the possibility that teenagers might buy them illicitly. In the name of protecting the kiddies, legitimate products that are overwhelmingly consumed by adults must be punitively taxed, hidden away or banned entirely. When adults are forced to live by the same rules as children, ‘nanny state’ seems to be not just apt, but rather generous".

Is it possible to agree more than 100%
Australia needs to harden the fark up, stand up and tell the minority dogooders to go and get farked. Or risk becoming a country where free speech won't be accepted and we wi become like robots at work. Must have permission to take off with left foot before right. Kinda stuff.

I was born and raised here and I love my country, but watching how it has changed throughout my life dissapoints me, i am ashamed of the way the government leads this country and the example it is setting, for all who have seen v for vedetta this feels like were we are headed, a government that tells us how to live our lives and how to raise our children, if things continue this way the people will revolt and there will be a rebellion againts the tyranical way the government is trying to run this country.

#26 ·
Our leaders are a pathetic bunch of corrupt farkwits that forget they are there to make our lives better, not farkin ruin them and make things difficult with ridiculous laws and bull**** legislation. I've had a gutful.

Personally i hope this plain packaging does come to pass. I think that tobacco companies have made waaaaay to much money from producing a product that is a relic from a time when people didn't know any better. I cant see how it will stop any seriously addicted smoker from smoking but if it has tobacco companies producing $100K+ add campaigns it has obviously got them worried. If i still smoked i dont think i would care less either, i'm just glad i was smart enough and strong enough to give it away.

Wait 'til the wowsers get into the booze. It'll happen, have no doubt about it.

Pictures of kidneys, smashed faces etc.etc. The whole thing stinks. Slithy Toves lurking about waiting for their chance to inflict their views on the rest of us. No guts, everything organised by meetings away from the public eye. They are the weak losers who got pushed around at school and ignored by others. They became kindergarten teachers and Greens. Should be shot.

They have a goddam cheek. Nobody knows what causes cancer (they used to but have forgotten.)

They only think they might know. Everyone has cancer cells in them, if their immune systems are good then the body gets rid of the invaders. If they are immune compromised then they are at risk.

The solution is not banning booze, or smokes for that matter, it is boosting the immune system.

are you in the medical field?
facts or speculation?
why are your views commonly practised?

JohnH...I don't understand you. I am in Noosa and in no particular field.

I'm certain my views are not commonly practiced...the world would be a farkin sight better if they were, and there'd be a damn sight fewer people as well.

In post #35 you wrote as if you were stating facts so i was interested to know you has a medical background or some specific knowledge of this area.

My sister and uncle are both doctors and were saying a couple of days ago that people taking things to bolster their immune systems was causing health issues in some cases... something about the bodies own immune system attacking the body...

Thanks for the response.
